"Cymbalta (duloxetine) is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SSNRIs). Cymbalta affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause depression.
Cymbalta is used to treat major depressive disorder and general anxiety disorder.
Cymbalta is also used to treat a chronic pain disorder called fibromyalgia, treat pain caused by nerve damage in people with diabetes (diabetic neuropathy) and to treat chronic musculoskeletal pain, including discomfort from osteoarthritis and chronic lower back pain.
Cymbalta may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide."
I hope that helps. You can also google it and get a wealth of information that way. I find that helps me. I try and research all my medications so I know exactly what I am getting into.
Good luck, hope it helps you as it did me.
I couldn't take it - my side effects were very nasty - but I do know people who have done well and seen great benefit.
Coming off it is equally horrible. Head zaps feel like someone just gave you an electrical charge in the back of your head. I looked in the mirror and expected to see smoke coming out of my ears.
I won't be taking any of the FDA approved drugs for FM again. Tried them all except Savella.
As they say, Cymbalta is not for everyone. It has help cut the pain way down, and helps with my depression. I go back to the doctor next week, don't know if he will up the dose are not. Been on 30mg for 4 weeks now.
Hope u find something that will help soon..
