Ask you PCP to refer you to a pain clinic or see if you can find one yourself. Unfortunately many doctors just do not want to prescribe narcotics anymore because there is too much red tape with the DEA.

A pain clinic will be your best bet I think.

I am going through the exact same thing - something really needs to be done about this- it is not right to allow people to suffer- it is inhumane. My rheumy left his practice and now noone will continue my pain meds.

I went to a pain clinic last month and I go again this Friday - this clinic is all about injections- I was told after several injection type therapies over a period of time - they might consider pain meds. So I suffer for now.

I am not trying to discourage you from a pain clinic- just telling you about the clinic I am going to.
Since noone else you see will treat your pain, I would say try a pain clinic also. Sorry you are in so much pain.

Here is an admittedly bizarre solution, but it may work, IF you PCP is human and has normal compassionate feelings for you.

---Tell you doctor that you are desperate and are going to go to the local street corner to buy your drugs, if he refuses to help you.
Tell him that you are willing to try any sort of pain killer, it does not have to be a narcotic, but you need something and if he will not work with you, you will go for street drugs.

I know that this sounds bizarre, but it may just shock him into helping you.

If he still refuses to give you anything or to work with you with some sort of pain med, take a drive and scope out where you can find street drugs.

I know what you mean Milily about it being inhumane...I really want to say to both of my docs if it was you all or someone in your family in pain you all wouldn't be doing this, I don't think they would hesitate for a second about writing a script for pain meds.

D that is a totally different approach but it might work!

I actually said that to my PCP- This could happen to you or someone you love- wouldnt you expect treatment of your/their pain. He looked at me like I was an alien.

I called my PCP today and left a note with his nurse...basically saying my pain level is horrible and I have to have something, I need to be seen this week and given something or sent to a pain clinic, I also told the nurse that at my last visit with my rheumy he gave me a script for hydrocodone and they didn't help anymore than a couple of tyenol or ibroprofen, so my doctor knows ahead time and he can't try that route with me. I'm hoping this gets me somewhere because I'm really miserable can't sleep because of the pain, can't keep up with my house work either.

Rhonda, this is awful! I'm so glad that you were agressive with your PCP, though. Unfortunately we have to be pretty forceful concerning our care.

I hope and pray he helps you out. If you choose to go the pain mgt. doctor route, you might call around and ask them what sort of treatments they use.

I have learned that many ER visits might put you in the "med seeker" category...but around here it's about all that will wake the dumba**es up to there being a problem. I also keep a 1-10 pain journal for migraines and fibro and they are taking me much more seriously.

I just got back from my doctor who won't prescribe me anything for the pain because she doesn't "believe in" narcotics. If they could feel the pain we feel for a day, they would give us all the medicine we wanted!!

ok I finally got a call back today my PCP wants me to come in tomorrow to be seen and his nurse said he is willing to give me something for the pain....so I'm hoping since I'm going to see him and he didn't refer me to a pain clinic that maybe I'm going to get somewhere with him. I'll update tomorrow after my appt.
