TODAY JUST BEING CURIOUS I WAS LOOKING UP ON ANCESTRY.COM i FOUND MY GREAT GRANDPA AND GREAT GREAT GRANDMA. NOT THAT THIS IS SOMETHING THAT I REALLY WANT TO START DIGGING INTO. nOT IN THE LEAST. wHAT MAKES US WANT TO LOOK INTO THE MORBID? NOT SURE. WOULD LIKE TOKNOW MORE ABOUT MY GREAT GRANDMA. WHAT MADE HER HAVE 21 KIDS? HOW DID SHE OUT LIVE ALL BUT TWO? WHY DID SHE LEAVE HER TRIBE FOR A WHITE MAN? WAS HE GOOD TO HER? DID HE TREAT HER BAD? WAS SHE ALOUD TO VISIT HER FAMILY? I KNOW I WILL NEVER FIND THIS ON A WEB SITE. WISH I WOULD HAVE TALKED TO HER MORE WHILE I HAD THE CHANCE. SHE WAS JUST SO INTIMIDATING. TO ME SHE WAS LARGER THAN LIFE. I STILL REMEMBER HER SITTING IN HER ROCKING CHAIR ON THE FRONT PORCH DRINKING A BEER WHEN WE WENT TO VISIT. I KNOW IT WAS JUST A FEW TIMES. BUT I REMEMBER THAT I STILL HABORED A FEW STORIES OF BAD INDIANS SCALPING WHITE PEOPLE IN THOSE YEARS. I WAS VERY YOUNG STILL. I REMEMBER THE BRAID COMMING DOWN HER SHOULDER BEING A STRANGE SHADE OF GREY. AND HER SITTING THERE ROCKING AND LOOKING TO THE SKY. NOW I THINK SHE WAS PROBALLY PRAYING. MY COUSINS WHO WERE FORTUNATE TO VISIT HER OFTEN WERE TOLD STORIES BY HER FOR YEARS. STORIES OF HER TRIBE. THEY ARE THE LUCKY ONES. I WISH I HAD BEEN BLESSED WITH THAT GIFT. GUESS I WAS BLESSED JUST TO HAVE KNOWN HER FOR THE SHORT TIME THAT I DID. NOW I FIND A SMALL PIECE OF HER NOW ON THE INTERNET. FOREVER FROZEN IN TIME IN THE FORM OF A CENSUS RECORD. tO GET A COPY IT WILL COST ME BUT i THINK IT WILL BE WORTH IT.

EVEN THOUGH I DO NOT COMMUNICATE WITH FAMILY MY I WOULD LIKE THIS FOR MY KIDSFOR THE FUTURE. WISH I COULD REMEMBER ALL HER KIDS NAMES THEN I WOULD LOOK THEM ALL UP AND GET THIERS ALSO. THAT WOULD BE NICE. jUST TO HAVE A COPY FOR FUTURE REFERENCE TO SAY i ONCE KNEW THE OLD LADY WHO LIVE IN A SHOE WHO HAD SO MANY KIDS SHE DID KNOW WHAT TO DO. wE ALL USED TO PICK LIKE THAT AT FAMILY GATHERINGS SAYING SHE WAS THE OLE LADY IN THE SHOE. BECAUSE SHE HAD SO MANY. SHE HAD THREE SETS OF TWINS. sHE WAS PREGNANT 15 TIMES. A TOTAL OF 135 MONTHS. 11 AND 1/4 YEARS. WOW!

WOW SO MANY KIDS! THANKS FOR SHARING THIS WITH US. IT REALLY WOULD BE INTERESTING TO FIND OUT MORE OF HER STORY AND HER KIDS. HOW DID SHE COPE WITH ALL THOSE KIDS? DO YOU KNOW IF ALL THE KIDS HAD THE SAME FATHER? I'M PART INDIAN BUT THAT'S ALL I REALLY KNOW. BUT I DO HAVE A PICTURE OF MY GREAT GREAT GRANDPARENTS DRESSED UP IN INDIAN...AT LEAST THAT IS WHAT I WAS TOLD, IT'S A PRETTY OLD PICTURE, AND I AM THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS A COPY OF IT. FAMILY WANTS COPIES OF IT, BUT MY GRANDMOTHER GAVE IT TO ME BEFORE SHE PASSED AWAY. THE WAY I SEE IT, EVERYONE KNEW SHE HAD IT. AND THEY COULD OF GOTTEN A COPY OF IT WHEN SHE WAS ALIVE. I WILL MAKE COPIES OF IT FOR MY KIDS BUT NO ONE ELSE.

Yep all the same father. Her last son has just passed. I found his census record and his draft card for WWII Wow! this stuff should all be free. I know it is at the library of Congress or something like that. But Wow! So Amazing. Not really interested in alot of my family but this part yeah! and before them would love to find more. I know ther are no writing records. I did find a place where i can get a DNA test for genetic records for Indian heritage cuz they are tracing or something. But it cost like 500.00. Cannot afford that.

Gosh that is interesting for sure...What tribe was she from?? My husbands Indian too 1/8th His great great grandmother married into to the "John Smiths" ..She was a Cherokee and her family ended up in south Ga. she had a bunch of kids too..Guess they didn't use any form of birth control then and she was just fertile..If I understand it correctly the more kids you had the better thought of you were?? In the Bible it says Blessed is the man who has a quiver "..Meaning kids.. I found out a few yrs.ago that my family back in Northern Wales is still living in the farmhouse that my Great Grandmother lived in..Wow huh? I'm 61 so you can figure how old that place is...My sister went to see it and our cousins there.she found them like you did and then communicated with them. They came over to the Stated for a family reunion and I got to meet them too..Please do more research and keep us all posted this is fascination..

Gosh that is sooo interesting...I had posted a long reply and hit something and it was gone!!! I'll try again...What tribe was she from??? My husband is 1/8th Cherokee. His great grandmother married into the" John Smith's" family. They ended up in South Georgia..I think they didn't practice any type of birth control because the more kids you had the better your standing in the community was..In the Bible it says " Blessed is the man who has a quiver full" meaning kids (quiver full). I think the Indians thought like that too..I guess that's why she loved her beer..LOL Had to to cope..
I recently found out that I had cousins in Northern Wales who are still living in the farm house my Great Great grandmother was born in! I'm 61 so you can imagine how old that place is..Those cousins came over to the United States to meet us all here.for a family reunion..That was so cool..I have a picture of my
Grandmother standing in front of that house with my father in her arms..I'm soooo glad they have kept in in the family..I think your story is fascinating and hope you continue your research..Keep us posted..OK?

Amazing isnt it what one can find on the internet, I think it would be wortth the money also. I have tons of pictures of relatives , some I dont even recall, When my dad passed away, my sister was just going to throw them away but I salvaged them.........they are family and just nice to have them though in a box.

They are Cherokee. Not sure why but she left her tribe to marry. But then after her the family got strange. Seems to me it got real strange. Story goes that my grandfather married and had three kids. He went to work one day in the Coal mines and when he came home his wife and kids were just gone. vanished into thin air. He searched for years. Seems he later married my grandma. Had 6 more kids. He died rapidly from lung cancer. She died. Then family all went crazy. Great great grandma was only one left besides a few stray great uncles. Oh well guess the crazies cant win them all..........lol or did they hmmmmmmm?

Oh! the plot thickens...LOL Wonder if her tribe came looking for her?? wonder also since they married outside of the tribes were they considered outcasts, not ever to be reconized again as cherokees??? I have wondered that about my husband great granmother too..Yes, would be interesting to know the whys on why they married outside their tribes...guess we;ll never know now..
