Family issues is a huge range that go from minor conflict to major misbehaviour and even abuse on the part of individual members of the family occur. Whether you feel you are in a dysfunctional family or you're dealing with a very specific issue, this is the place to talk about it and find others who might be going through the same thing.
My loving husband and I have been married for over a year and a half, together for 5 years. We have been trying to conceive and have been unsucessful so far. :( I have no problems with my father-in-law or brother-in-law... They can be difficult at times, but I know it is just their wacky sense of humor that takes things too far :) My sister-in-laws and my mother-in-law is where I struggle.
My mother-in-law and I are nice enough to each other, but something just isn't right. I am wondering if it is just me being self conscious? But she constantly says terrible things about my sister-in-law that she 'adores.' What is she saying about me behind my back? She is blunt and to the point, but not with me. In fact, she told me sister-in-law that she wished I would "stop complaining about my infertility and just do something about it." But she is the worst when she is with my sister-in-laws. My sister-in-laws have been know around the town for being bitchy and fake. Even my mother-in-law says they are. But instead of calling them out, she dismisses their behavior and becomes just like them. They have formed this little clique I feel like I can't be apart of. I want to have a close relationship with my in-laws the way my husband has with my family. How do I do that without becoming like them? Or am I just being self conscious?

Which explains the mysterious fevers and my extra fatigue. I'm so glad I pushed for answers.

Due to my increased paranoia, anxiety, and a panic attack over the weekend, my psychiatrist has put me back in a full dose of Zyprexa until further notice. Every time I think I'm getting ahead something happens and it's back to square one. I knew he was gonna do this but I can't help feeling disappointed. It is what it is.

Best to you on your plan to extend your family!
The in-laws set their own principles now. And in no way can you get closer to them unless binding yourself to their own style of challenging conduct.
The slanderous, disturbing comments back-and-forth are weakening your chance to express an affectionate relationship. And I am not stunned by their behavior either; all families suffer from somebody or something wrong or spoken opinions or faultfinding, private discussions of judgment, and the list goes on...no way to control this.
At this point, you have to encourage yourself to ignore and forgive. You're never going to get them to change. Change in behavior is a personal choice. However, one thing to consider is self-audit, endorse your own good qualities and characteristics. Perhaps the mother and sister-in-laws will respond to you respectively and further a deeper understanding of what they aim to be like, as decent. I'd address to them your "new you" plan in hopes that this idea may make a difference in how they view you and possibly they may follow your wise example or strategy, moving them to set similar goals; this will be interesting to them, naturally, especially since they need more ammunition (or admonition) to power-up their dramatic gossip; only give them something positive to talk about now.

(hugging is a silent way of saying you matter to me) ••♥••hugs!••♥••.
I think these are people who you need boundaries with .... It sounds like they trash one another on a regular basis.... Why do you want to get closer to them?
I get that they're your in-laws however I'd be careful what you wish for IMHO.... Maybe the way it is now is just right .... xo
