Family issues is a huge range that go from minor conflict to major misbehaviour and even abuse on the part of individual members of the family occur. Whether you feel you are in a dysfunctional family or you're dealing with a very specific issue, this is the place to talk about it and find others who might be going through the same thing.
I am a brand-new grandma and am very happy about that. My son, the father of the baby, however, is involved in a strange religious group that doesn't want me to be a part of his life or my grandson's. Like even sending out pictures, I assume, because he and his wife are not taking the baby to a doctor and they don't want that known (the religious group's beliefs). How do I establish a relationship w/ my grandson under this situation? Should I call and ask to see my grandchild or just wait and hope my son will invite me over? I don't want to put up more barriers but at the same time I want to be a part of my grandson's life! Is there anyone else who has a child in a cult that limits familial relationships? I'd appreciate any advice as I know no one in my situation.

I just did and found out that most states have written them into newer laws..
This is more than a simple case of "oh well, if you son doesn't like you and doesn't want to see you it's his right"
It's important because you son sounds like a nut to me, if he does not believe in medical care in this day and age.
I have a friend who is a retired pediatrician and I heard she had to report a family to CPS because they didn't want to feed their child anything but food that did NOT contain the nutrients needed for development.
You can be that child's only source of hope if his parents are part of a dangerous religion with crazy ideas.
Don't be afraid to stand up with the law on your side and fight for your grandchild's well being
My state, Pennsylvania, virtually has no grandparent rights.
Do you live local to your son? You could make a few nice meals and take them over.
The other thing that you can do is set up a saving's account for the boy, and leave it in trust (with someone other than your son the trustee) for your grandson. If you die before he's say 18 or 25, he would get the money then. You may not be able to get your grandson out of the cult (if that's what it is) now, but your help may enable him to get out later.
