Family issues is a huge range that go from minor conflict to major misbehaviour and even abuse on the part of individual members of the family occur. Whether you feel you are in a dysfunctional family or you're dealing with a very specific issue, this is the place to talk about it and find others who might be going through the same thing.
I have adopted my granddaughter, who is bipolar. Her mother, my younger daughter, and her aunt, my older daughter, are still trying to control her life and upbringing. They are basing their controlling behavior on their own upbringing, which was in a disfunctional family that broke up when they were preteens.
My exhusband was an alcoholic, and that left me with some very sever emotional issues and, as a single parent, their teenage years were less than perfect. I did, however, hold down a full time job and support them while batting severe bipolar depression.
Although things have been different with my granddaughter, all that they seem to remember is my perceived failures with them and assume that I have made the same failures with her.. Over the last few weeks, both of them, as well as one of their friends, have been screaming at me and ordering me around, and this is not the first time that this has happened. They assume that I have done nothing to help this girl deal with her issues (she is bipolar with serious anger issues), despite the fact that I have done quite a lot.
My thoughts are that when I relocate, because I am in the process of arranging to do so, that I should limit contact with these people so that our lives will be more peaceful and we can create a more functional family life.
Advise please...

Anyone entering my home that begins screaming at me, is shown the door and told to leave. It is YOUR HOME, and if their conduct is so poor, then they should not be allowed to visit until they can behave. So out they go and they don't come back in.
At your age and with what you are dealing with, these relatives screaming are not solving any problems or even trying to talk to you. Granted, an alcoholic father DOES impact the children and he should have been thrown out the door and they should not have been exposed to him. But don't let them now discuss their feelings by screaming at you and bringing a friend into the midst of it too.
When the home is listed and then sold, then you can decide were you will move. Beware, because sometimes bad relatives have a habit of finding out where you are and following you because they have nothing of their own and want what you have. Take care and hugs.

The stigma an fear of not fitting in, too bad society has doomed bipolar as a bad thing. When we have so many positive amazing skills an talents. Someone just posted a book on the bipolar site called "better than normal" such a nice compliment to hear, I ordered a copy from my library no cost, they even provide postage from an back.
