So I have supported my husband, pushed him, loved him, held him up when he was at his lowest...we've been thru some pretty rough stuff (Infertility, his depression and suicidal thoughts...lots of family BS) He has seen counselors, as have I. We have been pretty negative the past 3-4 years of our 12 years together.
Anyways, I am tired of feeling negative and tired of the cloud that hangs over my head. I have severe anxiety about when and what the next "horrible" life experience will be and when. I am pushing myself to get rid of that cloud and be more positive and happy. To try and enjoy life and not just wait around for the next problem...
But my husband wants to stay negative...I've brought it up to him many times, usually during a fight. I'm not wanting to leave him or anything, but I don't think I can make myself and my life happier if I have to deal with his BS....
I'm not one to do things for myself so this is a big step for me. I'm finally taking care of me. Thoughts Ideas...please don't say anything bad about my husband. I love him and he is a good man, just can't get him out of Negative Nelly land!

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

It's probably his way of transferring his negative feelings onto you.
You know.. "Misery loves company"
Set mental boundaries and don't engage. change the subject... etc.
It's a balance between getting out and getting your own batteries recharged, while not leaving him behind. Find a hobby and get out once a week or so.
If there's anything that the two of you can enjoy together (a TV show, book, looking at sunsets, coloring together (don't knock it until you've tried it)...whatever. Do that. Make it a weekly ritual.
Also include in 2-3 second daily pick me ups. As you walk by, take 2 seconds to just touch his shoulder, look at him and smile. No words. Just feel your love for him. Repeat 2x/day, everyday.
PS patti22 (I love coloring) :) LOL
Thanks Friends!!! Have a great week!!!
Getting help for his illness and learning new coping skills can really turn things around in such a positive way...It takes time and work but it's a very treatable disorder... big hug....xo
