Family Issues Support Group
Family issues is a huge range that go from minor conflict to major misbehaviour and even abuse on the part of individual members of the family occur. Whether you feel you are in a dysfunctional family or you're dealing with a very specific issue, this is the place to talk about it and find others who might be going through the same thing.
I'm frustrated right now because I have an elderly parent who is cognitively challenged. I am very devoted to her well-being, but it's very difficult. I have several siblings who don't get involved with her care at all. They rarely call or visit mom because they're selfish human beings. Recently, one of my sisters who lives out of state, came to our city. She was in town for a couple of days, but only spent a few minutes interacting with mom. I don't understand how she could be so insensitive.
Mom was a loving, and devoted mother who made many sacrifices for us. Unfortunately now, she needs more attention, and care which requires assitance. I'm doing the best that I can, but it would be much easier if my siblings would lend a helping hand. Sometimes, I look forward to a much deserved break, just to have some time for myself.
I guess I needed to vent, which is why I'm posting this. I love mom very much, but it's hard reminding her about paying her bills on time, taking her meds, opening her mail, being polite to others, being patient, straightening the clutter in her home, avoiding strangers, locking her door, turning off the oven, blaming me for something which isn't my fault, and now...I've noticed that she has been wearing the same outfit for the past four days. :(

We want the best ... as did your Mom want for you... let her know you love her, that's what she needs to know.
JenB1...it's very sad to observe the changes regarding her mental health. At this time, she's in denial that there is a cognitive problem. All I do is take one day at a time, and tell her frequently how much I love her. Thank you for your kindness.
there is no easy answer to your challenge h a spiritual point of view - some times we are the only angel another has and later, when things change (and things always do eventually) you may even see it as the blessing you were offered to be an earth angel. you will gain much character, empathy and strength of heart and spirit through this difficult journey i assure you - and that is to be valued.
is there anyway you could get some respite care?
there is a lot of support out there for carers in Oz, im not sure where you are but try talking to some community welfare agencies to see what assistence there is because its important you have some kind of support and break.
There are resources in place which assist with mom's care, and I'm very appreciative. Thanks again for your kindness.
I hope that one day, I can forgive my siblings.
