My daughter and I talk a lot and even though there is tension between me and her husband she and I are still maintaining a relationship. There are many, many things I want to discuss with her and we are going to have a 'talk' on Monday when she comes home from vacation.
Our most recent conversation was sad but telling. I don't even think she realized how much she revealed to me. For example; she was telling me that she was frustrated that her husband has invited a lot of people she doesn't like on their camping trip, that he didn't even ask her if it was ok, that she doesn't enjoy these people and is disappointed. I could see the sadness on her face.
She then told me about how she had a bad at work but when she came home and started to cry about it to him, he said, "I've had a worse day, I can't even listen to your problems right now." She said, "That's why I called you because I needed someone to talk to."
When she left I felt a profound sadness for her. I think she knows in her heart that she is in an unhappy relationship that is going nowhere but doesn't know exactly ow to get out. I am also starting to think that she is in an emotionally abusive relationship.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

The day will come when your daughter will have had enough.
Of course you feel badly for her; I wouldn't want either of my daughter's in a relationship such as you've described either. Any relationship where one spouse's best interests are never met is an unhealthy relationship.
I hope she takes the initiative soon and get's rid of that excess baggage; it's time to kick him to the curb!
There's a good chance that she's only giving you one side of the story.
Perhaps he really did have a much worse day, and she was blowing him off. Would you then think that he was being emotionally abused? Would you feel a profound sadness for him?
Or perhaps they BOTH really had bad days. It's a Good thing for each person to have someone else to vent to.
When you start feeling worse about it then she does, it's time for you to say so and back off. Maybe she's got a girlfriend to talk to?
Even if your suspicions are 1000% right. It's HER marriage. That's a sacred boundary, and not one to be crossed lightly.
I would only, Only talk to her...if you think that the situation is serious AND you were willing to lose your relationship with her, her husband and your grandchildren forever.
You hurt my feelings, I could write 300 pages on the things that have gone in the situation but I tried to give a snap shot so as not to burden others. I came to this place for compassion, understanding and ideas and suggestions, not criticism.
If you did not intend to come across as critical then I apologize but if you did then I respectfully ask that you do not comment on my posts in the future.
If you took the time to get to know me you would know that I am not a drama queen, exaggerator, or insensitive person. I only reach out for help when I can no longer find answers or a situation has become overwhelming. The people in real life who know this couple all share my concerns that this is an unhealthy relationship not simply an over-reacting MIL.
I wish you the best, and I'll respect your wish that I not respond to your posts.
