i'm 27 with a young child. I left an domestic violence situation and am still stuck at my parents home. Although the have money themselves i'm finding it hard to live here as i feel i need space and don't feel respected as a woman or a mother. I have looked for accomodation but due to finances its impossible until my son starts school full time and i can get some job. I feel totally trapped. I've gone from leaving with an ocd type controlling man to living in a house with dust and clutter and no personal space. I feel like i could be worse off as i live in a nice location but it's just not a HOME to me , for me and my son. I have tried explaining this to them but they are just dissmissive and insulting. My farther doesn'thelp by making promised to do out a flat he owns for me to rent from him and get me a car but months and months go by and i know it won't happen. I don't want to feel i have to fight a constant battle and i want to just relax. What can i do?

i think you need to sit down and assess what you can actively do to improve your situation. maybe you can convince your parents to help deep-clean the house once and then everyone can do their part to maintain it. maybe you can convince your parents to set aside money for you every week so you can save up and move out or get a car etc. sometimes, we really are totally stuck. in that case a saying comes to mind. "if you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change." in other words, make the best of it.

i have also lived with very difficult people in dirty houses. its not ideal but you will pull through. take care.

when i left this response, i was in a good living situation. now i have to take my own advice. my brother with no job or car is coming to live with me. he is 19 and got kicked out b/c he is a pot head and got arrested. we live on a mountain. i have no idea how i am gonna be able to afford him. plus i have anxiety a lot esp. about things i have no control over. so now we're in similar boats. take care.

p.s. aren't they cute? they're so sweet too.
