i literally have been feeling more and more miserable my story is long dont get me wrong i understand that mindful thinking keeping positive will always keep me on the right track but something is off way off. I had to suddenly homeschool 4 elementary school children bc of some very very ignorant hateful school staff that i refused to leave in the care of my children so i sacrificed going back to work and having a peace of mind to keep them safely home but my goodness i am stressed. Sometimes i dont get finished with work bc i like to help everyone individually until 8 9pm i find myself going thru tests and things theyve worked on online to ensure they are each doing what is expected. I dont want to be a lazy parent and just assume the work is all done and be done i have to ensure its all done appropriately. On top of that i had a teenage daughter who i just recently sent to go live with her granddaughter who was beyond disrespectful to me and now the younger ones have been giving me hell literally its mostly my two sons 6 and 7 who have me pulling my hair out from doing everything opposite of what is asked of them literally everything. they have both been cursing me out calling me every name in the book my usual punishment is sitting in the hallway of our home for timeouts and just taking their crap away. I am so tired literally i cant even focus on school work bc the behaviors are so off track i dont know what else to do i am literally waking up every morning not happy finding myself doing the same thing over and over again. I dont want to take them anywhere bc of the behavior and anxiety so most days we are at home until the behavior stops is there something i am missing hereĀ

Hope the dog days of summer aren't getting you down!

on ideas for handling your younger kids? And maybe pull back just a bit from spending so much time on their school work. Find an online group of mothers homeschooling their kids for support and advice.
There are many groups and Facebook pages for parents of homeschoolers. Seek guidance from them. Find books at the library or on Amazon about organizing your day. I think you may be doing too much with each as an individual. You like teaching which is good but you may be doing the work, when they have to be allowed to do it alone. I have know parents who homeschool several children and they did not take all day like this and their kids were HAPPY. Not saying you are wrong or doing it wrong, I just think you have to cut yourself some slack. You as the teacher also have to make time each day for you as the human being. It is tiring and this is how being less hands on may help. The kids also need to learn independence and doing some of the work themselves with your guidance can be very helpful to them. Have them all doing their schoolwork at the same time of day. You help them individually in small spurts like a teacher in a public school would do. You get them started and they finish. Homeschooling parents do not do all the work and 100% attention for all the school tasks from what I remember. Don't burn yourself out. They need a happy and emotionally healthy mom. What I remember of my homeschooling friends is they did from say 8-12 noon was school and the kids were just expected to all sit and do their work with mom's guidance and they were finished by noon. These were kids that were super smart and went on to early college. They did classes with homeschooling groups also, like chemistry or harder high school topics. Good luck to you, there has got to be a way that everyone's needs get met and you are not hovering and burning yourself out.
It sounds like you are doing BEYOND your part in keeping all the balls in the air with your children, but it sounds like you are letting them disrespect you and your schooling environment, which would NOT be allowed even in public school. Perhaps you can set up some ground rules for the home and school. List them out for everyone to see. Things like: No swearing, No disrespectful behaviors towards each other or you, Give your very best efforts etc... Post them in a common place for all to see and have consequences attached to each infraction. My kids were made to write sentences for a punishment, it worked great because they got to work on penmanship as well as sit and write the same sentence over and over again for 50 or 25 times which really made them think twice about doing whatever they did wrong again. A sample sentence might be, "I will not use swear words." " I will give respect at all times." Trust me, it works!
Good luck Momma, what you are doing is HARD, don't make it any harder on yourself by overdoing the grading or checking up. Make them check their own work before turning in. Homeschooling is all about discipline and raising kids to be "mini-adults", so invest in them the responsibilities for their own quality control over their own work or redo it. Exhausting yourself will only be bad for all of you, a dry well cannot still pull water when you have nothing to give. Give yourself a break. Get organized and get solid on communicating the non-negotiables and enlist help from your husband. My husband used to work all day and then come home to address any issues we met during the day in discipline. It works best to be a team.
