help for a friend

can anyone who reads this entry give a friend of mine idea on what she can do. She is collecting SSDI, lives with 2 of her sisters, one has a part time job, the other one doesn't. She also has a cat, who she definitely does not want to give up. The problem is, she and her sisters may be evicted, as they have not paid March's rent...There is no extra money coming in. Can you offer her suggestions?

Have they gone to the Dept. of Soc. Service or to the Dept. of Housing? They help people in situations like this. The Dept. of Labor also helps people with getting jobs. She gets SSDI, (so do I) & they should be able to help you out, also.

Try churches or the salvation. Many of the larger churches give assistance, though I don't know what the waiting period is. When I got laid off and lost pretty much everything, I put an ad on Craigslist in the general community section. I got a lot of mean and hateful replies, but someone did help me. I hope this helps you.

how do the churches help? my sister told me to go to the church for help on food and clothes

Some churches have funds to help people with rent. The bigger problem is what will they do next month? If there isn't enough money to pay last months rent then there won't be money to pay next month or the month after.

Unless this money shortage is due to some unexpected event they really need to figure out a long term plan. SSDI should be paying her enough to live modestly. THat combined with two sisters who could work should be more than enough money. So they really need to look at the whole picture.

In the mean time they should talk to the landlord. If they have been good tenants and they are honest the landlord will appreciate knowing what is going on and should work with them.
