Family Issues Support Group
Family issues is a huge range that go from minor conflict to major misbehaviour and even abuse on the part of individual members of the family occur. Whether you feel you are in a dysfunctional family or you're dealing with a very specific issue, this is the place to talk about it and find others who might be going through the same thing.
I am sorry that you are feeling so disconnected from your family. I do not have the same situation you are speaking of...But I did struggle to seek my parents approval (they have both passed)..which , even though I knew they loved me...I always felt that they were prouder of my siblings than myself..so, I tried to do things I thought would make them proud of me..in the end it really took me to realize that it is myself I have to be proud of..took me years to figure that one out.
If you need a friend to talk to..I a here..take care.
Hugs to you.
Could it be that it has nothing with your LD? Maybe it's because you're the oldest? That happened with my parents.
Any way you could talk to them about it?
What's your LD, if you don't mind telling.
A few snippets:
Criticism and slander is slyly disguised as concern. She only wants what is best for you. She only wants to help you.
She'll slam you to other people, but will always embed her devaluing nuggets of snide gossip in protestations of concern, love and understanding ("I feel so sorry for poor Cynthia. She always seems to have such a hard time, but I just don't know what I can do for her!")

My advice is to learn more about this. Build yourself up, know that none of this was your fault, and none of it is normal or acceptable. Work on setting boundaries. Until they see you are putting your foot down they are unlikely to be willing to hear you out. I'm doing this now, and it's very difficult. My parents have broken me down so much that I feel lost without them, even though they treat me horribly. The funny thing is, they were never willing to hear my complaints when I came to them. But now that I've pulled away, they are coming to me, practically begging to be told what they've done wrong.
Good luck and stay strong.
I worked as a school social worker for five years and took a few classes on parenting. Research does show that parents are more likely to be "abusive" toward children with disabilities.
It's not fair at all. I am not sure if they are abusive or just lack the skills to deal with a child who has a different learning style.
My son has LD and CP. He's our only one. It's kind of hard sometimes, but then I have Lupus and, honestly he is the most understanding person. I am sure that you have many gifts.
Know that you are loved and that your parents must love you too, They just don't "get" you yet. With Much Love.
