Family Issues Support Group
Family issues is a huge range that go from minor conflict to major misbehaviour and even abuse on the part of individual members of the family occur. I am new to this support group and I have a very struggling relationship with my mother. I feel like I always have. I'm 32 years old, own my own place, good job...etc. But, I feel like my mom is still "parenting" me. I thought at one point you actually become friends. She tells me how I should act, how I should spend my money, how I should save my money.
I'm not the type of person who likes to be the center of attention, I'm not a chatty kathy. I don't call home every day. And my mom is the complete opposite and sometimes I feel like she is trying to mold me into the daughter that she really wishes she had. She compares me to how I interact with my friends and other family members to her. I cannot call my dad (they are still married) and ask him to do something without her feeling left out. But, me and her can do something and my dad won't complain at all.
It's like a no- win situation. I've seen a therapist about her without her knowledge. But, we've never seen one together. I just got off an hour long, very painful phone call with her putting on this, what I believe to be, a sob story asking how do we make our relationship better. But, honestly, I have nothing to say to her... I feel awful that I feel that way. But I have no desire to even try and fix it. I feel like nothing I do is good enough anyways which I have expressed to her 100s of times!
Anyone else experience problems with their mothers?!

ATM, we're going to "couples therapy."
Hey, insurance covers it, and it's not a benefit unless you use it, so, hey- why not?
It's frustrating I know but I think it's common between mothers and daughters.
If you want to do something with dad then do it. But let mom know openly about the plans...mom, dad and I are going to see this movie with the actor we like. If she asks to go you tell her it's something the two of you share,
It sounds like your mom is lonely. Does she have friends or family she is close to? Often women devote their younger years to raising a family. Then the family grows up and away and they are left alone. Maybe mom needs a job or a hobby.
