Family & Friends of Cancer Patients Support Group
This community is dedicated to parents, siblings, grandparents, other relatives, friends and caretakers of cancer patients. It's difficult to find a safe place to talk about caring for a loved one with cancer, and so this group serves as an open forum to foster positivity and support for those going through this tough time.
Maybe you could make a memory book - write down all your happiest memories of her, maybe add photos or other mementos (tickets, receipts, notes, birthday cards etc).
Have you mentioned the dreams to your therapist? They might mean something, but equally they might be a natural part of mourning and grieving, your body and mind processing the emotions you are feeling. I have not dreamed about people who have passed away. But I had a friend who I cared for a lot, and we parted painfully. I used to dream about him often, the worst was dreaming he was back in my life and we were happy, because then I woke up and remembered the truth, that he probably hated me. That is the closest I have come to what you describe.
If the therapy and meds are not working, maybe you could try different meds, or a new type of therapy, or even a new therapist. There are many different styles of therapy and some work better for certain people than others. Ask what else is available.
As for your dad, I try and remember that you cannot change other people, you can only change your reaction to them. He is hurting too. But some people express this in different ways, and others struggle to express it at all and feel better simply pushing it all down and keeping going - it is scary to face up to such extreme pain and loss of a life partner. I would mention these feelings to the therapist too.
I hope you feel better soon, I will keep you in my thoughts.
