He self medicates with marijuana. So no, in my opinion he is not under control at all. The few months he was on a prescription medication were the nicest months I have ever experienced with him. But he stopped taking them because he said they made his mouth dry.
His "moments" are getting worse and worse. I am becoming scared for our child who has stressed having issues with his father screaming at him.
I know they say that it is the disease, not the person. But how do you explain that to a young child?
I am hoping that his child will be the one things that makes him realize that he need more than just self-medicated state of mind. I have done a lot of research and I have shared that with him, but he can't ever get past me "trying to control his life"....I keep my fingers crossed that he will see different soon. Our child is getting older and more aware of the problems his father struggles with. All I can do is pray that he decides soon because if not I will be forced to use our child as leverage to make him seek help both medically and professionally. He has already tried to convince our child that he to will have the same issues, knowing from the research I am well aware that BP can be genetic. But what right does he have to share that with an innocent child who doesn't have the where with all to even begin to understand the disease much less be able to comprehend that he may also have the same issue. This is why I put our child with a councilor on a weekly basis, I am only his mother. I have no idea how to talk to him about his fathers issues. I can't even deal with it on my own.
