My BP/schizo-affective person needs supervision. She's a bit like a 12yo - I can leave her alone for the day (I work FT) but no longer. Initially I accepted responsibility for her meds, then the dr said she was so much better there is no reason why she cannot do everything for herself. So I gave the meds back. big mistake, IMO. After about 10 days I asked whether she was happy that she was taking the stuff like she should, and she said (after thinking about it) "not really". Now I know she is an adult, and technically she can accept responsibility for this - I can give her a list of what to take when, and she can tick items off, but if she doesn't get it right the consequences are too ghastly to contemplate. I suspect she was so sick for so long (before she came to stay with me) because she wasn't compliant with the meds, and not because she doesn't want to comply. So I am happy to pick up the responsibility for this. I put a week's worth in the little containers that have a separate compartment for each day - one lot for the morning and one for the evening, and she takes them.
She is doing really well, BTW.
How do other people feel about this?

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

Are you saying that she's not now taking her meds or that you worry she may not?
You say she wasn't compliant but it wasn't because she didn't want to take them - it sems she is incapable of loading up the med containers (I have one myself) - that sounds as if she has a very low level of functioning or is that just confined to sorting her meds?
As to what I feel about it - I'm bipolar and I take responsibility for my meds - for some years I was alone so there was no choice, I had to do it. But then I'm reasonably functional, married again, full time job etc etc.
At some level her functioning is much higher - when she visits her daughter's family she helps with the kids (toddler and baby); fetches them from school and such.
She is definitely taking her meds - my concern is not that she won't take them, more that she won't take the right dosages at the right times. I don't know for a fact that she wasn't compliant before, it's just a suspicion.
Thankfully, my husband has always been responsible for his medications and done a great job. There have been times I wondered if I'd have to take charge just for a little while during times when there were adjustments in the medication, but he has shown he can do it. But I have found that if I start taking on responsibilities that really should be his, he'll just give me more of them until I'm overwhelmed. Setting and keeping good boundries is really important.
I'm okay with being a support for my husband (finacially, going to dr appts, etc), but I don't want him to become completely dependent on me to manage his BP to the point where he'd be lost if something unexpected were to happen to me.
Your friend is fortunate to have you. Glad to hear she is doing well. I hope that continues.
thanks again - this is a tremendous group.
