Hi all,
I need help dealing with my wife. I'm not sure if she is bipolar or borderline. Here's my problem. Randomly she seems to get mad at me. I ask what's wrong or how can I help and she starts yelling at me. I try to tell her I am trying to understand what's happening and she starts saying I'm yelling. Then she says just leave me alone and I ask why and she claims I never listen. I say I'm sorry I don't know what I did and she says I yelled at her. I say I asked what's wrong and she says again leave me alone. I say OK I'll leave u alone and she says you don't have to say anything or sometimes you always do this. I say do what. And she says leave me alone. I leave reluctantly and maybe 1 hour later come back to her and try to talk. I ask can we talk and she starts saying I always don't do what she asks and she just constantly blames me for not leaving her alone. I try to say I just asked what's wrong and she flips out again and I walk away again. The next day she acts like she did nothing wrong and says I didn't leave her alone. That's the pattern we are in.
Here's what happened today. She was giving my son a bath and just finished. She seemed ok with him and his bath. I was watching TV. My son finishes and runs to me and she just walks out the door. I turn on the outside light and 2 minutes later she comes in the door and asks can you turn off the light. I say huh? Why? And she yells at me just turn off the light. She acts panicky and tries to turn off the light and finally gets it. I follow her out and say what's happening? Why did you need the light off? She ignores me. I say what's going on? Are we talking and she says you didn't turn off the light when I said. If someone tells you to turn off the light you do it. I say huh? What's going on? She says you have to turn off the light if I ask. I say are you listening to me I don't understand what's going on. She says I just want to be left alone and you didn't turn off the light. You never listen to me. And she walks away. I run after her and she says leave me alone and I say what happened? I get no response and I leave her alone. Now it's my son's bedtime and he wants her to go to bed and I find her outside and tell her he wants her to go to bed. He always has had bedtime with her. She yells just do it yourself. I don't have to always do it. I say but you always wanted to. She says I want to be left alone. I leave and manage to get him upstairs in bed but he keeps asking for her. Finally she comes in and tells him a story and he goes to sleep. Later I ask what happened. And she says I was annoying her. I say I mean before with the light. She says you didn't do what I said. I say what is going on. You aren't respecting me. She says you aren't respecting me. I said leave me alone. I leave confused. And here I am still confused.
Am I in the wrong? I understand I can leave her alone. Everyone tells me why don't I leave her alone but it's always randomly and I can't talk to her for about a day after when she isn't stuck in this mode of not answering me at all. It's really frustrating losing her. I don't know what to do. Thanks for listening.

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

Then you have to factor in that people also do things because of their personality and circumstances.
Is it that she is still being diagnosed or is this something you suspect yourself?
I ask because this behaviour sounds more like normal depression, her temperament or something you are doing that's annoying her rather than a major psychiatric disorder.
She's right that you need to help with some of the child rearing tasks, like reading a bedtime story to your son. Why is it that your wife has been doing that one thing for so long alone that your son isn't happy with you doing it? What does your wife do that is different than how you read to him? Does she cuddle as they read? Do funny voices to make the characters more interesting? Show him the pictures more? Or is it just that she's been doing it alone for such a long time that your son can't imagine anyone else reading to him?
While your wife might be bipolar or have a borderline personality disorder, and it would be nice if she could explain what is going on with her, all you can do right now is try to give her a little more space, and help her out with your son, so she can have some "alone" time, some desperately needed time (as she is making abundantly clear) to relax and rejuvenate herself.
This is just a theory I will toss out there. Have you and your wife ever taken the online personality assessment by Myers Briggs?
Here's a link - http://www.myersbriggs.org/my-mbti-personality-type/take-the-mbti-instrument/
My thoughts regarding this are, and especially if she is a stay at home mom, but even if she works - she simply has a very different personality than you. That doesn't necessarily imply she is bipolar or borderline or anything. (BTW - only a psych professional can diagnose. Which, a little talk therapy might do her some good, it's pretty good for everyone.)
Ex. I am introvert and my 2 of my kids are extroverts. They sometimes drive me crazy just because they want my attention constantly and I need time alone periodically to recharge my batteries. Also, if I walked outside the house at night to escape, I'd want the light off too - because I wouldn't want the neighbors looking at me. My new husband, omg, it took him a while to learn when I asked to be left alone... to actually leave me alone. That it didn't imply he had done anything wrong or anything was actually wrong but I really, really needed that down time. I still don't get enough. He is extremely loving and sounds like you a lot. It would literally drive me bonkers. I'd be all "there is no problem, let me be" to which he'd freak that he had done something wrong and want to discuss it and I'd be - (in my head) this is going to end in an argument simply because he doesn't "get" me needing periodic space. And I do not have the energy for an argument as I am already going on drained batteries right now, thus the need to be left alone.
So I suggest, if she asks you to leave her alone. Please, leave her alone. Unless she is making insane statements - leave her alone. The only thing you should ask is okay, do you want me to take care of our son while you relax?
I do suggest the therapy thing. Maybe she's stressed.
