My hubby is BP and has treated for years for depression but not the mania. I just round out that what a mixed episode is, and that seems to be what 'normally' happens to him. So, he's getting treated now, I think, for the mania, but I'm not sure.
Anyway, he has been spending money for months on 'prepper' gear (stuff to prepare for the end of the world as we know it) and I got him to stop that. But now he's spent hundreds of dollars on books on history (he loves history). So I asked him to stop that. He gave me his bank cards for about two weeks and then asked for them back to go to an all day training meeting about something and spent over $1000 on stuff there.
Now I don't have money for our bills, and this is driving me crazy! I am tired of being the responsible one. I am so tired of being the one who figures everything out on how to make ends meet.
He's really works on being better about behaviors, and things/he gets better, then he just picks up another crazy behavior.
So, does it ever end? Do bp's ever get stable? Is there help for the spending/shopping obsession? Will it always be just one thing after another? Someone tell me it gets better, please! Are there any books that you could recommend for me to read?

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

If you are in an episode you don't have much control - that is part of it and you can't change that. Think of it like being drunk. You cannot think yourself sober.
The key is to stop getting to that point and having plans in place if it does.
Meds are almost all the answer - if he's having episodes go back to the doctor and challenge them to fix it.
good luck.
I can understand what your going through. It may get better with the right medication and if they stay on the medication properly, my husband does not. My husband does not work any longer so when his mother doesn't give him money he is out of luck. I don't give him money because he spends it on crazy stuff that is not needed. Since he doesn't have money he steals. Do you know I have called the stores, told them who he is, what he looks like and everything and still he has not been caught. That may be mean but stealing is wrong and if he is going to refuse to do as told to help himself then so be it. As for books I have read "Loving someone with bipolar" and "the bipolar relationship" Very good books. Hang in there it is hard to tell someone else what to do heck I don't know what to do anymore. I know I am ready to walk away however because I love him that is not going to be easy. Best of luck to you!!
Ambling, separate bank accounts is the way to go... I agree. I wouldnt tell him this but a person with a mental illness can be forgiven for overspending, esp when talking about your money.
