It's almost Christmas (as you would all know) and this make me more worried and anxious about my mother. Things that should be good or fun can send her into an episode of hypomania or mania. She has seemed pretty good for the last few months and still sounds ok (when I talk to her on the phone now). But I am so scared something will tip her over.
My sister has just told mum that her and her boyfriend are looking to buy a house. My mum told me on the phone that last night she was really worried and scared about my sister getting into that much debt etc. I told her that my sister works full time etc, that she'd be fine and that she should try not to worry because she doesn't want to get sick.
One: I am worried that mum will make herself sick worrying about it. When really it's nothing to worry about.
Two: I am annoyed that she ruins (whether she means to or not) so many things that should be a wonderful time in my life or my sisters life.
Three: I am frustrated that she still thinks she has any say it how, why or where my sister and I do anything. She can be very controlling; using guilt as a weapon.
I really don't enjoy any special occasions at all anymore. I actually dread them.
I just don't know what I am meant to do. I can't stop her getting sick. She won't help herself.
I'd feel like the worse person in the world if I walked away...
But I can't live like this anymore.
I just feel really sad and worried after talking to her today. I should know not to even attempt to look forward to anything anymore.

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

Like your mom she makes herself sick worrying and getting angry over things that she really shouldn't be getting upset about. She also has ruined every Christmas that I can remember when I was living at home. I hated Christmas because of her. She was and still tries to be very controlling, manipulative, and abusive.
As hard as it may be, try not to walk away from her. I'm sure there are good times as well as the bad times when you are with her or speak on the phone. She's the only mother you have so try to remember she's sick.
worth a try??
Alcohol has five actions that cause issues if someone is bipolar
- it causes moods swings, remember people can get angry, aggressive, sad, crying.
- it disinhibits people and therefore can magnify any disinhibition caused by a bipolar episode.
- it's a depressant
- it can interact badly with certain meds so it's dangerous
- it can stop meds working.
So please don't suggest or try that. You have enough problems with her sober.
As before I don't have any suggestions, just look after yourself and I hope you have an ok day.
It's when I turned into an adult I knew she was wrong. The last time she hit me was her last because I hit her back and she was scared of me....that was in my early 20's.
Alcohol is not the answer either.
