All my life I've lived with an unpreditable father. He's angry, makes up stories about people and seems to believe it. Up one day, down the next. Blames others for his life, is prone to violence. Has guns that he needs for protection in a safe neighborhood. Treats me badly, makes up stories about me and tells all the relatives.
I'm about to move back in with him. He's 82 and undiagnosed. He will not get help and it's getting worse. I can't comitt him because he's very good at appearing normal. From everything I've seen and read about bipolar disorder(I was a nursing student so I've got a tiny bit of a bacground) he has it.
I'm on this group to try and cope. I'm a recent widow so I've got two stressers and this one is actually on my mind more than the widowhood issue. I just need to hear from other people in the same position. I know my father can't help the way he is and that makes it all the more harder.

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

Up and down from day to day is not typical bipolar, our mood swings usually last unmedicated for weeks or months and as you will know from your background there are a bunch of things that will give rise to bipolar type symptoms, including a number physical things.
Unfortunately it can't move forward until he goes for a diagnosis.
good luck.
I know it can be any number of disorders, but since he's refused to go to the doctor, there's nothing I can do but take a guess based on symptoms and join a group that can help me get through this mess.
I just read your post on this and it is very helpful. So much I see in my father but not everything.
I just realise 6 months later.
