My fiance started before he had to turn himself in. It depends on the counselor, and he is lucky to have a good one. They briefly talk about their "offense" but the majority of the time, they go over life issues, like work, self esteem, finding a career, etc. So, I think he will benefit from it.

My counselor was like mtbfan's husband's. I went to him for 3 years and we talked about life issues 99% of the time when talking about me. It even hit the point where he would ask me questions about things that had nothing to do with me. He was bouncing off things from his other clients to get my take. Sounds weird but it wasn't.
Also, no polys, plesys or anything else after my initial battery of psychological tests. He actually told my PO that I was screwed by the system, in writing!! I saw it in my PO's office.

I would also like more information if anyone has it on court ordered SO Treatment programs that include group therapy.

Was not in treatment , but was told to get a psychological evaluation which i got , but my PO did not like the fact that i got it through health care for the home less wanted me to go through a analyst that she picked , that i could not afford . Never did say anything more about it after i told her that i could not afford 300.00 per session with at least 3 sessions .

I have heard horror stories about treatment. The providers treating you like crap. Making you admit things when there is nothing to admit. Forced polys and a host of other crap.

My husband has been going to them for ten years - once a week two hours a week which we pay for. At first they may of helped a little. Now they are a joke that doesn't seem to end. Some counselors were ok some are terrible. It probably depends on the state. I consider them a nightmare that never ends. A couple of years would of been enough.

My partner is doing his in the prison it's full on and it's group based. They had to tell there life story, going into what they did (or didn't do) why they did it, empathy for the people they offended against, and that includes writing a letter to them that's only some of what his had to do don't forget his is prison based.

My hubby's is court ordered group therapy...and it's an absolute joke. The man conducting these sessions is more interested in how much money he can pull in and how low he can cut a person down.

My son is going through it and I'm happy for him. He doesn't need SO treatment so his therapist is helping him in with things that'll improve his life. Right now my son is learning how to stand up for himself. This week he was given a chore to accomplish (something he'd ignore rather than taking care of). I've been trying to get him to get help for years and having a court order seems to be the only way to make my son stick to counselling.

My son probably will be doing counceling once he moves to El Durado - he gets accessed for three weeks then they decide what jail to put him in. God, what a nightmare! I'm so lonely.....

We also have to pay for my husband's court ordered treatment. I have a hard time with the punitive concept from a treatment provider that I am paying for.

It is interesting that we have also asked for copies of his evaluation/case notes, etc. and have been told at this time that they do not provide that. Of course HIPPA requires they provide copies, so I assume that this will be a fight. (sigh)

Dont worry. You are not alone.When we see television shows with a prison. Its usually cold, dirty, and violant but here is something that you dont see. when my husband was first incarcerated he chose to stay in general population instead of protective custody.Now he is not in a prison with straight sex offenders. there are rapist,murderers,you name it they were there and he began in a super max.I was terrified night after night something would happen to him. Now its even worse he is in a wheelchair for life and I pray no one hurts him because he is at a disadvantage.My husband has a great personality and when I visit they all seem to look out for him.and yes many do know his conviction but they dont bother him.dont get me wrong just like Rew said inmates have to be careful but you know your sons personality and Im sure he will be fine. After all this time I still worry about my husband. but like he always tells me and I think it is just to cheer me up he still has his upper body strength I worry but not as much. Dont get me wrong tears will be shed on your end but slowly you will learn to cope. if you ever need someone to talk to i am here.we all know what its like!your not alone....ever o.k!
