Yes, the site makes no sense, and I think more and more people realize this. The ones committing crimes against children are most likely NOT on that list in the first place. There was another Amber alert for an abducted child, and before I even heard the rest of the story, I already knew what they would say. It was the father of the child, of course. The majority of times these things happen, it turns out that it involves a relative or close friend, and the majority of the time, that person is NOT on Megan's law. So why have the list? Nobody knows……..you will not find the answer on that list.

Most times when I read articles about SO they call them child molesters or pedophiles .. like every SO is a child molester. There's really no grey, just black and white. It's all about scaring the crap out of the public. Our country is so good at that. And our families are left behind as they try to censor us by any means possible.
SOs are banned from living in the 21st century. No computer, but if you do, the government watches you.. and not even being able to look on the registry.
When I was in Floriduh one of the RSOs said he had to be home by 10 pm.. as if that's when all the children come out to play.

Ever heard of "schadenfreude"? It means getting joy out of the misfortune of others. We all experience it sometimes. Anyone who says they have never felt this is kidding themselves.

This is one of the reasons the registry is far from benign. It gives people the opportunity to get their nasty, little ya-ya's at the expense of someone else's pain without being socially condemned.

While being aware that schadenfreude is a normal human response, it is our responsibility as compassionate human beings to recognize when we are feeling this and to not act to condemn another just because it may feel good to us.

When you feel schadenfreude and you let it pass, you are compassionate. When you feel schadenfreude and you act on it, you are opening the door to sadism or worse.

The registry provides that open door. That is its true danger. It opens the door to the gloating pleasure of some at the expense of others.

What I fail to see is how the gloating, sadistic schadenfreude you see in the sex offender "haters" is any better than any other offense against another human being.

The registry simply lets people who give in to their own feelings of pleasure at the expense of others' pain an opportunity to do it in a sadistically "socially acceptable" way. To me, that is true evil.

Life, are you in CA? I've read on prisontalk.com that CA doesn't allow rso's to look at the site. I know, it's dumb!

It is true for California. A registrant can't look at the site but can have someone else look…..so silly. So you can sit literally next to the person who is looking up the site…like anyone could really tell. That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard…wait, there are other dumb ones right up there. Nothing makes sense and more and more people realize this.

I look at it from time to time and yes, Peek, I know all about shadenfreude, in my case, because the son of the people who manipulated my step-daughter to lie against her dad, is now on the registry. Which means, their address is now registered. I can admit to a bit of shadenfreude.
But yes, even so the registry is pointless.
