The problem is an inmate can call home and ask their family members to look up what the charges were, especially if it was the newspapers. My husband's PO told him to say fraud, but he just told the truth.

Both of my incarcerated sons say it's best to be vague, but truthful. Don't lie. Lying will get your hubs in worse trouble than telling the truth. My oldest son is in a facility where 60% of his fellow inmates are SOs, so he's very safe. My other son is in a facility where he's among the approximately 25% SO population. He's less safe, but he's doing ok.

I had seen several different stories and the one that semed to be accepted most was agg assault, Domestic violence works to, especially if he faces a sex charge in ohio all sex charges are considered violent so assault fits right in. Usually just an charge isn't enough but a follow up statment like "I'd do it again if I had to" (assault not sex crime) will quite the interrogators. Understand that most of the problems of witch hunting comes from sexual offfenders attempting to show that they aren't one of them themselves.

Pathella, CA sees sex offenses as violent as well which is why he has to serve 85% of his time. I guess if you are old (he's 51), and clean cut (no tats) they automatically assume you to be a SO.

OneOfThem, this has nothing to do with the system. It's about his safety while incarcerated. Instead of criticizing, offer LEGAL solutions. Having a story to share with other inmates doesn't matter to law enforcement and will not effect his term, parole eligibility, etc.

Don't be an a$$ if people don't like the bad advice you offer. If you don't want to offer a suggestion, then get off this post. If you have a solution, like a story you used in prison to keep yourself safe, then by all means share it.

You are intelligent and have a lot of info for those of us who have started this process. We look to those seasoned to help. I understand your anger, but you place it upon the wrong people and don't use it to make things better for every SO. You only want to make things harder for those in law enforcement.

He needs to request a SNY (special needs yard) when booked otherwise he could be hurt by other inmates for being a SO

I asked my husband and he said others have told him they said Assault. Another guy he was in county with was placed in the SHU for 4 weeks until they found a place for him they felt was safe. he hasn't had any problems after getting in General Population.

My hubby was blackmailed by a guard in Kansas. He's never actually told me what he had to do for the guard but when he didn't do it, the guard let lose what he was in for ... even though he wasn't convicted yet ... and the other inmates started demanding his food and money or else they would beat him up/kill him. He got out of it because his mom (he was 19 at the time) he needed more money and when she said she didn't know if she had it, he got quiet and scared. She ended up giving him the money and got him moved to protective custody. I'm not sure that any story can help a person who's in that situation but I wish the best for everyone who has someone inside.

I didnt tell anyone but my charge showed up in the paper and my whole block found out alot though i was scum but no one tryed anything dude to the fact that i was in jail i suppose made a huge difference also i was one of the biggest guys on the block but that dontt matter so much in prison. i would ask for PC or to be alone i know alot of prisons already know this is a problem but i am not sure what they do about it.just be carefull and watch ouT
