We are always blamed for all first timers sex cri

Watching the news last night a man got 1 years for sex crime and they (news people) turn it around that all sex offenders get off easy and this is why the crime is so high. These sex offenders reoffend and get away with it, no wonder they will never change.

This person who received 1 year just got caught and most likely will not reoffend when he gets out of jail. He did not reoffend and yet we are being punished for all the first time sex crimes.

I dont read a lot about reoffernders in my local or national new as I do first timers WHY?

I know for my 1st offense ever never being in any trouble at all except maybe traffic tickets. I received 17 years from that GREAT state of Floride

Because the news wants to sensationalize the story to get more viewers. They don't care about truth, they only care about ratings.

Maisre what was your charge if you don't mind me asking. I know FL is above and beyond strict but 17 years for first offense.

Agree, Thoughtasweak said it right. Also, Freebird makes a very good comparison with Nazi Germany. Isolation of any group of people should send up a big, red flag in anyone with a conscience. Problem is, a lot of people seem to have lost connection with their consciences. If you read the writings of Pope Francis, this is his primary message. Too bad the Catholic Church has such a strong presence in the sex offender scene. I'm sure it would be far to difficult for him to address the reality of this issue and to encourage compassion…but I may be underestimating. It would be interesting to hear his take…

As far as the media goes, it really is about sensationalism. Stories about sex offenders get people to listen…sells more adds that way. A couple of years ago I was watching the news and noticed that there were three stories almost right in a row about sex offenders. There was one story in between the 2nd and 3rd. It was about bed bugs. Good grief!
