First let me say I've been wearing an ankle bracelet for the last 10 years. Last Sat night at roughly 7 pm I received a knock on the door and when I opened it there were two cops standing in my doorway. They told me they had a bench warrant for me and that I had to go back to the station with them. I gave them no trouble and just went with them after I told them I was one this bracelet and showed them it was blinking green which on my side showed no problem I have the one piece bracelet. I showed them several times during my stay at the jail that my bracelet blinked the entire time. When I showed before the judge and he was filled in on what happened He was a bit BS over the entire thing and said this is the 3rd time this month something like this has happened and they were just wasting the court's time as well as the jail's time and if this keeps up he will request no further ankle bracelets be issued. Leaving me thinking two things 1If this has happened once what's stopping it from happening again? 2 Even when you do all the right things you can still be arrested even if is proven to be a bracelet malfunction. I further question if this is a case of false arrest?

I hope the judge gets you off the bracelet for good.

Unless it's a pattern of abuse against you, it's not a false arrest. If there was a legitimate bench warrant put out, the police operated in good faith and not much can be done. Now if this has happened multiple times to you, you could show harassment.

Maybe you could sue the manufacturer of the device in small claims court? Get a transcript of what the judge said this has happened multiple times and sue? That would be fun haha!

Wow glad you are out of there! That definitely adds another depth to this lol! I'm sorry they did that to you, that absolutely sucks. I think if I were you I'd try to talk with this judge to get the bracelet off. It seems like he may be on your side. At this point you are better off hoping it malfunctions again and the judge orders it off :-(

Ten years on an ankle bracelet? What do I have to look forward to? I was just released in Virginia under the sexually violent predator law. It was a fight just to get out of prison after finishing my time. Here, as in a number of other states, they can commit you involuntarily if you are serving time on a sex offense. I was lucky to make it out. I am on GPS with a curfew, undergoing treatment through probation and awaiting what will probably be many polygraphs. I am not even authorized to use the Internet, despite my crime having nothing to do with that. I may be in trouble already, but in this day and age, the Internet is like having a phone. I would not have been able to start building credit, applying for jobs, or anything without it. It is tough and I won't deny that my history isn't pretty. I have come a long way and am trying to do the right thing now and show everyone that being a sex offender is not the end of the world. Most people who know me would be shocked that I committed such acts (nearly 20 years ago) as I am not the "guy in the trenchcoat". Anyway, I know what you are going through and you aren't alone.

I know what u mean DWC seems my crime and yours started both in 2005. I still remember the timing of it because it was the Saturday before Mother's Day so the date is coming up fast and I'm on this thing till 2022 still a long way to go.
