My then 20 y.o. son went to federal prison for 30 months. You'll both make it thru.
Actually, the attorneys need to throw a lot at the judge.. you can't wait until after someone is sentenced. It's a lot more work trying to go backward. I know.. my new lawyer is trying to do just that and it costs me a small fortune all over again. But it's too late for that.
We're here to support you.
If it were me I'd tell the attorney to go for everything before sentencing. Also check on the restrictions when he's released, as those should be addressed now as well.
There is no such thing as a fair trial for CP.
The judge won't consider any psycho-sexual evaluation nor any submitted letters of recommendation. (At least not in my case...)
Make sure you a.) Do NOT wear tight clothing (as baggy as possible is better, they will turn you away after waiting for an hour), b.) Don't wear any tan or orange clothing (includes khakis), c.) Don't wear a bra with underwire (it sets off the alarms and they will make you rip it out of your bra by hand, or go home), d.) Make sure your kids wear baggy clothing - to be safe, don't let daughters wear skirts, they generally turn away any child with anything remotely revealing.
These are all things they don't tell you before visiting, it's not even in the visitation procedures, so I figured I'd mention them. ADTC is a good place - my boyfriend never had issues pertaining to his crime, but he has a mountain of problems stemming from drug addiction and family dysfunction, and like I said, the therapy there has COMPLETELY turned him around. It's all peer run therapy groups, and if you work hard you really are capable of benefiting from it. I know it sounds odd to applaud a prison, but out of anywhere else that your husband could be, ADTC is the safest and best environment for him right now.
If you have any further questions, feel free to private message me - ADTC is good for prisoners, but borderline frightening for visitors, and the rules are all over the damn place. I know this is a truly scary time and I can't imagine what you're going through with kids in the mix, but everything happens for a reason. Stay strong, you'll get through this.
