Okay, so I have been dealing with someone in the Missouri Department of Social Services about this new law that will target those receiving food stamps or temporary assistance for needy families, which encompasses those who are sex offenders among many thousands of others.
1. According to the Department official, 60,000 out of the 400,000 Missouri citizens receiving food stamps will be targeted for a loss of benefits;
2. The Department is going to send out a notice (I assume it is to all 400,000 people) that they "may" loose their benefits -- this will keep the person wondering if he or she IS going to loose their benefits;
3. Citizens are going to have to sit in limbo to see if, in fact, they loose their food stamps, which they will know upon not receiving such on the date they normally get their food stamps;
4. If they loose their food stamps, they will NOT be able to correct this in the simplest and lowest level possible by calling the Department or going to a Department suboffice to speak with a Department employee and have them fix the problem created;
5. Rather, the citizen is going to have to file an appeal and go without food until their appeal is heard and decided upon;
6. If the food stamps are still not resorted then the citizen will have to file a lawsuit against the Department in circuit court -- and still go without food stamps.
7. If they win the appeal or a lawsuit, the citizen will NOT be reimbursed all food stamps they lost during the waiting time it takes for their appeal or lawsuit to be heard and decided upon.
8. The Department will NOT pay for any medical bills a person sustains because they are forced to go without food even if the loss of food stamps is proved to be the fault of a Department employee screwing up.

Obviously folks are going to have to stay on top of things and be strong self-advocates if they hope to avoid or at least minimize being caught in the snare. With 60,000 people being affected, it is stupid for those working at the Department not to expect for screw up''s to occur, but sadly they have no Plan B as usual.
