This time of year I'm thankful to know those people who are now part of my life. Mango, who still has another 4 years in federal prison who has been my son's best friend there for the past 2 years. Face, who got 35 years that should have been only 15, who was my son's Bunkie in county and was there at the toughest times in my son's life, being new and innocent in a corrupt prison system. (we have a lawyer for Face, hopefully he'll get a lesser sentence). Steve who works out with my son every day and gives him tips on diet and workouts, the guys in the band 'Who Cares' that my son has been part of for these last 2 years. My son is coming home soon but these people still incarcerated will not be forgotten by either of us. I have learned to love them for who they are and grateful to know them. They've changed my life.

The most important thing I was told in prison is that it is a very bad place filled with very good people. This was passed to me by my first cube mate or bunkie. He was not referring to the staff.
I remember all of my friends from prison. I am still in touch with many of them. It's like the military. You make friends for life!

In my son's release papers it says he's not allowed to have any interactions with felons. It's part of his probation. But I was hoping he'd still be able to write some of his friends in prison. They're hoping he will. If not I'm the go between. How could our country decide that you can't have contact with others you've spent hard years with ?

Nako & Cool; have either of you heard of the Certified Chaperone program? It may be early but we are checking into that. I too have met some great folks in this journey. I sent the cellie a Christmas card. He may not be "ideal" but once he understood that my LO was there due to Internet issues he's settled down. This as up posed to when he 1st got there and the young punks were call in for his "papers" and calling out names.

I have no idea what the "Certified Chaperone program" is. I didn't need it. As for the " no felon" contact, that would mean that a released RFSO could not go to group counseling. They tell you one thing and then have to modify it later. All they are doing, especially the BOP, is CYA.

Rich, I don't want to go against this communities rules, but if you look up Limestone Tech you'll see one sample I'm looking into. As for this thread I'm great full for the support I've gotten. Nako, I'm hoping you will still be here but understand that at 1st your plate will be happily full!

I'll still be here. My son has 15 years probation.. I'll look into the CC program. CoolRich you bring up a good point about the group counseling.
My son's judge said he was NOT to take SO treatment but would have to go to some kind of personal counseling.. for what he didn't say. We have that fight ahead of us as well.

If he is going for individual counseling, check out Timothy Foley, PhD in Ardmore. I went to him and he is great!

Tim is a Forensic Psychologist that specializes in sex cases. He is used by the Feds, PA and NJ to do work ups and such. Don't let that put you off. Also, the Feds paid him for my counseling. He may remember me even though the last time I saw him was 10 years ago.

Felons are people, too, right? Glad there have been positive experiences for you out of all of this, Nako. Those guys are really blessed by your caring.
