At the risk of being too "preachy," I offer this essay.

"...when we celebrate the death of other human beings because it means we are “safer,” we may be worshiping the idol of safety rather than the enemy-loving God embodied in Jesus. When we demonize and punish entire groups of people (the vast majority of whom have no desire to do us harm) for the sake of our “safety,” we may be worshiping the idol of safety rather than a Jesus who loved indiscriminately. When we reject the very people (many of whom are children!) who are fleeing violence for the sake of our “safety,” we may be worshiping the idol of safety rather than a Jesus who calls us to care for the “strangers in our midst.” Finally, while these may feel like safety measures, it is growingly clear that these means don’t lead to lasting, sustainable security and safety. Rather, they more often lead to resentment, oppression, and instability, which then breeds more violence."

There is good reason to be afraid. So long as we agree to be silenced, afraid and isolated we are in real danger of sitting by and watching as "others" are picked off group by group because we are afraid we will be the next target. Just imagine, Utah now has "registries for "white collar crime? The definitions of words and the use of Registries morph. There are just the "new" label telegraphing old Hate...
I guess to toss my two cents into the tank... It all boils down to your theological ideology and whether you think for yourself what the meaning and teachings of Jesus are to you, while being aware there are other faiths in the world - Catholicism, Judaism, Buddhism and of course the dreaded and now stereotyped Islam- and you can't demonize others if you don't even attempt to understand where they are coming from, and that "some' Christians must realize they can not force the whole world to believe as they do.That rings of religious fascism to me. I do like the Christian left organization.
