Some of you gave great advice.
I am thankful I weighed in on that advice heavily. Between you all, my friends at work, and my aunt, I was able to finally get up enough courage and have a "Rip the Band-Aid Off" moment.
The tipping point was we were texting back and forth about whatever and out of the blue she told me that she had to tell me something. I was like...Uh Oh.
She told me that her ex-husband called and proposed to her but she didn't say yes. Me, I was thinking to myself that this was none of my business and #2 I am glad that she did.
I asked her point blank that if he was so controlling why do you stay in contact with him? She replied that he was on dialysis for his kidneys and she wants to catch up on how he is doing, etc. Uhhhh ok???
When I spoke to my friend at work I said, "Red flags?" She said looking at me with the look like what more evidence do you need that she's a little off...lol, "Red flags."
I wanted to speak to my aunt because I thought that there was a situation that her and my late uncle went through that was perhaps a "life lesson" that I needed to hear earlier in order to deal with this situation today. Her advice was stern. She said that she didn't like the smell of what was going on and that she didn't feel good about the situation. So I had my answer.
I emailed her and kept it short and stated my reasons for not continuing with the relationship, that she wasn't emotionally ready yet for a relationship and that I was praying the best for her. She tried to turn the tables on me by saying the same exact thing but for her reasons and didn't say anything except take care.
So. There you have it. It's not to be. And that is okay.

All I can say is that sometimes when you try too hard, you don't find what you are looking for. My current partner more or less landed in my lap in 2009, and I was NOT looking.
