So my husbands attorney told me that the cost of his mental evaluation was going to be at least $5K. I decided to call this so called doctor and find out if they did payment plans or if they would take a credit card, and if the cost was truly gonna be $5K. His secretary told me that it was $500/hr and that it should take a max of 8 hrs. So most likely only $4K. I was like Oh My Gosh! really 8 hrs of questioning?!! She then explained the breakdown to me. It would take 2 hrs to the county jail and back ($1k), to talk to his lawyer ($500-1k), to write the report ($500) and the rest is just evaluating him. If the session ended early, the doctor would refund me whatever wasn't used, which I highly doubt. On top of that, they only take cash or check. No dang credit card. Now I have to reevaluate my finances, since they don't take credit cards. This is getting too expensive, on top of the lawyers fees, commissary nights and phone calls.
