I'm so happy! This is setting grounds for other states not to come in compliance with SORNA and the Adam Walsh Act. Many states have been watching Ohio! So this is AWESOME news for all!

Does this ruling provide for all of the AWA? or just the status return part?

If you were convicted before January 2008, (when the AWA went into effect) and your tier level was changed, due to the AWA, you will go back to your original statis. Example, my son was a tier I offender since 2001, he was supposed to register for ten years, and due to get off the registry in 2011. Because of the AWA he was reclassified to a tier III and was supposed to register for life. Since the Supreme Court ruling, he will go back to a tier I and get off the registry in 2011, (his original requirement). Anyone convicted on or after January 2008 will still be held to the AWA.

dsk...... That's only for Ohio right now. All other states will have to comply or choose not too. However, most states, other than two, are NOT in compliance with AWA, so therefore, it doesn't apply anyway.
We just need to pray that the other states WON'T comply to AWA because of the ruling handed down in Ohio!

i hope that my husbands will be changed. his happened back in 1998. i'm happy for you and your son. i know what you have been through.

That gives hope that maybe one day they will realize how unconstitutional it is to put people on megan's law when they were convicted before the law was passed. It happened once before. Praying it will happen again. My fiance was charged in 1993. I pray everyday that one day he will be free.
