Unfortunately it is not harassment or slander if what they are saying is true. The truth is a complete defense in these cases. If they are saying things that are false you would have to be able to prove damages. In our situations that is really tough because how can you differentiate between just the damage our label has versus whatever they are saying. I've lost jobs because of my label, so it gets complicated fast. Unless it is really egregious I don't see any sort of legal action going anywhere. Your best bet is killing the person with kindness and trying to start a dialogue with them.

Effie, can you afford to put a camera in the car to record his actions (to protect himself)? Maybe put the camera on the dash board, and put a sign up to advise of the drive being recorded.

Yes I will keep everybody updated. I'm not sure if he could put a camera in the car but it's very smart idea. all it takes is one person to say a little lie for attention and he could go back to Jail for a long time. It would be her word against his, but with his past I'm sure they would side with her. I typically try to be positive, believe me, I'm not trying to be negative, but realistic. His case was listed in the papers...this was over 15 years ago. When you google him the first thing you see are the over dramatized newspaper articles. Then his face, his address, I'm just very concerned for him.

If you run the search, you will even see what kind of cameras are available. Just as police body cameras are slowly starting to become available, taxi cab cameras are required in major cities like San Francisco.

So, legally, there is precedent when it is done for a public taxi. In your guy's case, he would be proactive. I would definitely look into this. On a related camera note, the state trooper that I have as a legal contact recommended that I have an outside camera to monitor my door, or at a minimum an indoor camera that monitors my front door. Certainly the people who hired him know about his background. Do they know the riders know about his history? They might have to be consulted before using a camera since this really is their business.

@EffieSteffie: Does he use his own car? If it is a "company" car, it is out of his hands. If it is his car and he gets reimbursed for mileage or actual expenses, this becomes a gray area - where he would need to talk to the company as well.

It is a company car. So far everything's been quiet, nobody is saying anything else just one person making a big deal. His boss has not mentioned anything and is his normal friendly self. I'm hoping that this all just blows over. I'm positive that his boss knows about his criminal history they did An extensive background check before he started his job.

I think the camera is a good idea. My son lost his job at a hotel as night manager because one of the female desk clerks saw his name on the RSO list. She told the owner it made her "uncomfortable" even though he was nothing but professional with her and the rest of the staff. Walking on egg shells is exactly what a RSO has to do or loose their freedom. We learned this the hard way. I hope you all realize that when they became RSO they lost most of their rights the rest of us take for granted. Is it fair? Hell no but that is just the honest true facts. Do what ever you have to do to not loose your freedom. You now have to become a model citizen and even better. Sending up a prayer for all of you and your families. This life is not easy and we are still trying to figure out how to do it. I just hope my son gets the opportunity to come home and prove his life is of value. To me he definitely is worthwhile. I love my son.
