i honestly can't remember if i shared a story about this or not. and i can't remember if i read about it on here or not.

this isn't the article that i wanted to post but it'll do. i simply googled south carolina charging inmates for using social media.

if an family member posts on an imates FB that he/she said to say "hi". the inmate is getting nailed for it.

OMG - this is insane! In fact, in many cases judges have ruled that social media use is a necessity today. I guess I am showing my ignorance here but number one why doesn't the prison system simply block the social media websites from the computers? They can do it in many ways - workplaces do it all the time. And why not consider the content of the contact? We they do criminal activity or were they merely saying hello to a loved one?

And I wonder if it is actually written into SC law that it is crime for an inmate to access social media? I mean they are in prison and then the prison in convicting them of another crime? Can they do that?

I am appalled and very upset - this is just nuts.

they are doing this also if a family member posts a message from an inmate on the inmates social media site. the inmate doesn't have to 'be the one to post', it can be anyone doing it for the inmate. or that is how i read and understood it.

look at this petition - we are not the only ones that think this is wrong. This petition says that Facebook has actual helped the Dept of Corrections find these folks!!!!

I was told that if my sons name appears on social media he will take a hit. He has no access to the net. I was gonna set up a fb for him for his friends to send messages i could print and mail and was told what i just told you by the u.s.marshalls office.
