Maybe I'm just old & somewhat ignorant when it comes to the world of technology, but I was so upset last night when my teenage daughter whom we try has hard as possible to keep sheilded from things that may occur because of what her father did comes to me with her ITouch & tears in her eyes & shows me the new SO APP that is now available for all to download (including all her friends) & through the wonderful world of GPS she has located her father, his picture, our address & his crime all in about 5 secs time! I understand my husband committed a crime but he never touched or harmed anyone & never would he definetly doesn't belong on that website along side violent predators. I guess I'm just wondering why it's necesarry for people to have this info at there fingertips, in there cars with GPS & just making it that much easier for people to locate & possibly committ hate crimes against someone just because they have a label of SO. I just needed to vent to someone that understands because ther are so few in my everyday life that does.

I am sorry for your pain, for everyone here's pain. I am also probably setting myself up for attack, but I have to speak my mind.
I love a SO, I wish I didnt my life would be much easier, but obliviously it isnt what God has in mind for me currently. I am also a mother, I would do ANYTHING to keep my kids safe. I hate that this hurts your daughter and your family, but there are those out there who DO prey on our children and we have to know.I feel it is a necessary evil. Our kids' friends may have family members or neighbors who do these types of things. You know you cant identify them by looking at them. I have to ask, would you tell a friend of your daughter, that your loved one was a SO before they spent the night at your house? Would you let them make that decision to trust you because they know you? I would, but I know most wouldn't. My top priority is my childrens safety, sorry.

Fortunantely, SO's are not all pedophiles! Unfortunantley, the registry lumps them all together! The problem with the registry is that it bears false witness to people. It makes us all "feel safe" because it's supposed to "warn" us of child molesters, rapists and murderers that live in our neighborhoods. But when lawmakers create a "feel good" law out of stupidity and not of thought, then that is what happens! Now as it is, we can't trust the registry to be accurate and to protect our children and selves.
There's a significant difference between a teenager that has consensual sex, a truck driver relieving himself along the road, and a person who sits at home looking at porn, than a person who abducts, rapes and kills children! That person is a murderer! Not to be classified with anything but! That's the person I'm afraid of!
My opinion!
Always, I'm sorry that you and your children are having to experience this! The laws are so unfair!

Yes, all of our rights are going down the tubes. And people better wise up. Today it's us, tomorrow who knows? It is scary that "Big Brother" is breathing down our necks. What is scary, as has been mentioned above, is that all offenders are bunched together. People think just because someone is on the registry they are a threat to their family. Just not true. Most offenders don't belong there and just want to live their lives in peace.

Thanks to all of you for your valued comments & thoughts on this issue, I'm glad I'm not alone in my feelings on this. It's a sad & disturbing thought that a murderer that has served his time has a better chance of rehabilitation & freedom in everyday life than someone given the label of a SO.
