My son's sentencing is next week. Basically, his lawyer is asking for 15 years (the minimum) and the DA is asking 30 years, so it could be anywhere in between, depending on what the judge decides. I've had a roller coaster ride of emotions since he was arrested in February and sometimes it seems like it's never going to get better. I've been pretty depressed lately and then today was feeling pretty good, til I came home tonight and saw a post by my (soon-to-be) ex-DIL about the sentencing next week. I can't un-friend her because it's almost the only way I can see my grandkids, but it gets pretty hard sometimes.

I visited my son on Sunday, which was mostly good, but he talked a little bit about his evaluation which was done recently, and they asked him about something that happened when he was about 14 years old. He did some things to my ex-husband's stepson, and I took him to counseling at that time. He was never charged with anything back then, and eventually the counselor said she couldn't do anything more with him because he wouldn't talk about it. It had always been in the back of my mind, but I always felt my ex had done something and that it wasn't really my son that did anything.

That came back to haunt me when this happened, because my DIL found out about it -- from my ex -- and was furious that I never told her about it. But when or how was I supposed to do that? Plus, my ex gave me crap about never telling her. Well, it was HIS stepson that it supposedly happened to, so why didn't HE ever say anything?

So now, I'm assuming my ex has told the DA all about it, which to me is like betraying his own son. I know he hasn't written any letter in support of Will because Will's lawyer told me he only had 2 letters, mine and my daughter's. And Will said his dad had only visited him a couple times in all these months. He was always a crappy father, which is why my daughter and my older son hardly ever saw him or talked to him, but you'd think he'd be supportive of the son who spent the most time with him.

Sorry this is rambling, but it's been very hard lately and I don't really have anyone to talk to about this. I've thought about going to counseling. Has anyone here done that?
