I can't even begin to know how you are feeling, but I know how angry I would be if it were happening to me.

First from what you have told us, they have nothing on you. Your husband doesn't live there, even though by law he probably could since he is not on supervision anymore. You're right that the person that reported this is woefully uninformed about the goings on in your home.

Have you had a chance to talk to your 11 yr old about what CPS talked to them about? don't interrogate her but find out what they asked her about.

I know you're worried, but it sounds like you have all your ducks in a row, with sunglasses and hats on them. That you've take measures to keep your children still at home safe. They will soon find out that your puppy doesn't do their business in the house, and if they did (small dogs have potty pad to use many many times) it wasn't their business anyway as long as the house is clean of feces...

It sounds like your neighbor is not going to get any kind of satisfaction out of this 'tip' they made to CPS. I am sure you already have an idea of who it might be too. I know I would. You can do a couple of things with that, you can report them as well, it would appear you can just make stuff up, so spin a story up... this first option is not recommended no matter how much fun it might be or how good it'll make you feel. :) The second option and more advisable option is to cooperate with CPS, call an attorney to cover your butt, and keep on keeping on like you are, cause it sounds like you are a good parent.

Call an attorney first if you can. And then do not talk to CPS without your attorney...or just tell them to go talk to your attorney period.. Anyway, CPS gets most of their 'information" from you when they get you to start talking (co-operating?) when you think you are trying to 'help.' (they may actually be deciding whether or not to charge you) What you say often doesn't help you but it might 'help' them. If you are being 'interviewed' respond yes or no and then sit there in silence....let them figure out what to say next.

If your 11 years old (boy or girl?) doesn't have any bruises and has been to the doctor (has all their shots etc) your house is only messy /fairly clean (no buggie critters no 1000 dogs) and your refrigerator has been swamped out recently and there's food in the house you'll be OK. It was just the 'mention' of sex offender that perked CPS interest. That is also a good reason to make sure that younger children coming up aren't kept in the dark about what went on when they were too young to know because even if we think we are protecting them if / when they are questioned what they hear from others may be a shock and you want your kids to get their info through you.

What is wrong with people? Can't they seriously mind their own business. I do not blame you for being mad........dog pooping in the house, how pathetic! Stay focused and I think Janet's idea with talking to an attorney is a good one.

Please, please, please do not talk to them. They will use everything you say against you, no matter how innocent you may think it is. And they are liars. I went through this before my husband went away and 2 years later they are still coming around to bother me...and i'm not even the one they are coming after! The spoke to my daughter because of a chat they found on his computer that they claimed he admitted he did something to her. She went through the entire interview process and the woman interviewing her said she 'didn't disclose anything'. When I asked if that meant the case would close because nothing happened she said they would never say that nothing happened, just that nothing was disclosed at that time. Then the case worker said that when they asked my daughter about sex she go a little upset and said 'I'm too young to talk about that'. But the supervisor told me my daughter fell apart and was hysterical when they asked her about sex. When I brought up the fact that they were giving me contradicting stories, they just looked at each other like a deer in the headlights.

Just keep in mind that they don't care about you or the well being of your child. All they care about is getting you into a program so they get a kickback. If you do end up having to go into some sort of program, DO NOT go to anyone recommended by child protection. Find your own people.

From what I have learned in my dealings with CPS, they do not have the right to talk to your 11 yr old without a parent present. Tell your 11 yr old that if they ever show up again, that they don't want to speak to them without you there. Then remain silent. Tell them they will lie and do whatever to make them speak to them, but you can say that they only do this so they can get people into trouble. As for yourself, do not speak to them. They are not allowed into your home without a warrant. You don't have to speak to them either. If you have an attorney, give them the attorney's number.

If you both have already spoken to them and they found no cause for concern, if the person continues to file false reports, you can tell them that these claims are harassment, and they have reports showing that prior complaints were found false, and you will not meet with them.

I didn't know all my rights, but I was smart enough to have a third party with me when CPS came to speak to me. I had several complaints made, and CPS specifically told me this stuff when it was clear that the allegations were used to harrass me.

Well, the lady came by yesterday afternoon. I decided to go ahead and talk to her because I was confident that we have done nothing wrong, and that this is just because of some petty, jerky neighbor.

The lady was super nice, talked to me and my kids (older, teenagers and above). She asked a few questions just to clarify things and after about 10 min, she declared the whole thing ridiculous and seemed to be as annoyed with the report as we were. She did tell us that there is nothing we can do to bring any consequences to the reporter.

Frustrating thing is, whoever reported us has also reported us to the SPCA and to the police (we have a car parked in front of our house that isn't running, so we have gotten 2 parking tickets on it now.) I just don't understand these people.
