Someone posed this question to me as he was recently denied benefits due to registry status. So I spent the morning yesterday on the subject.

You probably heard about the Farm Bill denying food stamps to Registered Persons. Well, it isn't entirely true. You can read my full analysis by clicking the link, but to answer that question:
If you were not convicted on or before February 7, 2014, you are still eligible for food stamps. If you were convicted after February 7, 2014, you are STILL eligible for food stamps so long as you abide by registration laws and don't have any active warrants out for your arrest. If you are denied simply based upon sex offender status, you can successfully appeal for eligibility.
So, for now at least, you don't have to worry about SNAP eligibility unless you are someone convicted after Feb. 7, 2014 and are failing to register or have a warrant for your arrest.

Do they think that registrants, who are increasingly unable to work to be able to pay them? It's no wonder we go underground. It's easier to live off the land than to pay extortion and starve. ....

But essentially this ban was overhyped because it seems the only way you will be denied for benefits is if:
1. You committed your offense after 2/7/14
AND
2. You are failing to register or in violation of some other law/ you're a fleeing felon.
Good to know. Still a stupid law, but good to know.
With the federal drug law, states had the option to apply the law. They don't have that option for sex offenders.
