As long as you're out of Florida I wouldn't worry about it.

Somehow this got posted twice and I answered on the other one also - Aladdin is probably correct but I would make sure - it scares me because the minute the 72 hours is elapsed in Florida they are going to list him as absconded - I would not trust the info to get from Penn to Fla in the 72 hour time frame myself

The reason I say don't worry about it is because spending a night in a hotel won't trigger the registration requirements or residency restrictions of any given state. That only happens if you stay in a state longer than just overnight and in some states for non-residents that can be up to 14 consecutive days or 30 aggregate days per calender year.

All the research I see says it's ok. I'm not going to bother asking the PO about it. We'll be home in less than 24 hours. Thanks

I understand but the part that concerns me is that he is already registered in Florida - are they going to expect him to check in a change his registration? it seems to me they will - I doubt the change will reach them from Penn in 72 hours - I may be incorrect but I sure would make sure - because this is not about visiting another state etc. he is already registered in Florida. When they are incarcerated they are on the registry.

Sorry - but you guys are missing the jist of what I am saying. let me tell you another scenario so maybe you will get what I am saying. A guy is a registered RSO in Florida - on probation. He decides he wants to move to Montana - so he hops on a bus and gets to Montana and immediately goes tot he probation to register. They are going to contact Florida and ask if the person let the probation officer and the sheriffs department know that they were moving. They will say no and a warrant will be issued because that person is absconded. I do not know that this is what will occur but remember Florida is weird - I know that your son is already on the Florida registry because all incarcerated SOs are - my point is that because of that whether he is incarcerated or not Florida says he cannot just leave the state without permission especially if they are on paper. . Like I said I would contact Florida PO not Penn PO. I might be wrong but I would not take a chance. In fact, after my experiences I would call and take names. Anybody out there understand what I am trying to say? LOL

There's this thing called the interstate compact. Where an inmate requests being released to another state. My son has given his counselor and others in that prison his new address. They need to accept it, which they have and now he's good to go. I know of other inmates who were from out of state and when they're released they go back there.
So ... I'm going to go away now for a while, happy with our decision. I have the PO's phone # here if I want to call but they tend to make things more difficult and if they can they will. If they think they have an opportunity to fuck with you more they will and so I'm just going with what the prison has let us do.
