A few states do this. Can't remember which ones. There is no Federal registry. It is all done through the states. The Federal website pulls all of its information from the state registries. They want all of the glory with none of the work.

I know there's no federal registry but thought they would make them register in the state they're incarcerated. maybe that's why they don't do it. and I'm glad for that.

It's bad enough to have to register.. but now they come to the prison to do it for you. that really sucks.

It is really horrible that they paint yet another target on someone in jail or prison. Also, I put that point in about the federal registry in case someone else didn't know.
That is what makes a case like mine so interesting/confusing. I am not on the PA registry yet the AWA says I should be on for another year. Regardless, I won't give any information I am not legally bound to give so they get nothing. If the feds want it, they will have to set up their own mechanism instead of putting it all on the states.
I wonder how the no so SMART office would answer this question?

yes Nako - I think we talked about that back when your son was being released - I was surprised (but glad) they had not registered him in Florida - most of the people incarcerated in Florida are registered while in prison
