Well yesterday we recieved calls from my husbands lawyer to let us know we were not going to have to attend the pre-lim hearing. That he had spoken to the procecutor and they were not looking for jail time from my husband but want him to plead guilty to the charge of Sexual Solicitation of a Minor and in the State of MD that requires a 25yr listing on the registry.

While the lawyer said it is a good thing they don't want Jail time and are willing to negotiate he is unsure any negotion would come without registering.

I am still holding out hope that he would not have to register as for our family that would be just horrible. We have two girl age 4 and 9 and they would suffer the most as they would never be able to have friends over and in Maryland it is published in the paper and on the internet so I fear we'd be harrased and have to move. Problem is we live paycheck to paycheck so not sure where we would have to move.

OH MY GOD! I am not sure how much more I can take.

I would dance in the rain if anyone in my son's case just mentioned the words "no jail time"!!! That sounds like a wonderful outcome!!

Ask your husbands attorney about the possibility of a deferred felony conviction with supervised probation and treatment in exchange for not having to register. It's worth a try.

If I were you, I would counter offer, take a felony conviction of a lesser charge with no registry time.

Oh my Gosh! no jail time! I agree with asonsmother; when they pospone court dates, I'm sure is because the prosecutors and the Attorney are still trying to come up with a Plea Bargain. All the parties have to agree!! sorry you're going through this and your family. This is a lot to take and I feel sorry we all have to deal with this type of situation, not what I ever expected in my life, but here it is and we have to deal with it. I hope you have a supportive family that can help you with what you need. Breath deeply and count your blessings!!

One of the factors in postponing court dates and offering pleas is often that they don't think they can make the case. I would never try to tell anyone what to do in this very complex situation but you have NOTHING to lose in bargaining right up until the last minute for the lowest penalty you can get.

If you can avoid the registry do it - the registry causes more ongoing harm to SOs and their family than anything they ever did to anyone. It prevents them from living or working in any kind of peace or privacy, and often prevents them from working at all, as employers do not want to be listed on the registry as employing a RSO.

OH gods! I would die for a someone to say "no jail time" to me about my fiance`!! Yes there's a stigma involved with the registry and definitely keep fighting, but rejoice, huny! your man doesn't have to go to prison!! Believe me! As horrible as the registry is, nothing compares to having him so close you can see the sparkle in his eyes and not being able to touch him!
