My current lease is up at the end of July. My husband gets out of prison early 2016. Once out he will have to register as a SO. I would like for him to be able to live with me once he is done with his halfway house time. I know my landlord has a "no felons" policy and I'm planning on discussing my current situation to see if an exception can be made for a couple of months until next July and then we will move on. I'm worried it won't work out with my current landlord and I will have to move in 2 months. I looked into buying a home in my name only; but it turns out that the banks won't give me a substantial enough of a loan to buy a decent home until I can pay off some debt. I've looked on Craigslist and other websites for a different property to rent. The problem is that most landlords and property management companies won't lease to felons and/or SOs. Another complication is that from what my husband has told me is that he can't sign a lease until he is out of BOP custody, which is not until later of 2016. Again, most landlords and property management companies want all habitants listed on a lease to undergo a background check. My husband wants a stable home established before his release so he can come live with me sooner rather than later.

I don't really know what I'm going to do. I want to be able to live with my husband as soon as it's possible. I'm looking for any advice from others in similar situations. Are there organizations I can get in touch who will help us out? We are desperate for help of any kind. We are planning on living in Kansas City, Missouri area.
