Today my husband had a polygraph as part of the plea agreement he is making with the prosecution. I honestly thought it would be okay, we paid for our own polygraph person(someone used by our attorney) and were having it done at our lawyer's office, figured it was just a standard thing, hubs would do the poly and we would move on to the next step. Oh, was I wrong!!! Long story short, my husband's results came back as inconclusive. The poly guy thinks it was a combo of things, we first drove 5 hours to just get there, then hubs went in not having had lunch, plus right before hand our attorney went over the plea agreement in detail(took 1/2hour) and so hubs mind was soooo not on the poly. Plus, my husband feels so guilty for everything he's done(CP case), he's almost consumed with remorse, and the poly guy feels that had alot to do with it as well. Ugh! So, now we have to go back in a couple weeks and try again. I'm so scared, what if this happens again???? I asked our attorney and he said well then we need to reconfigure. This plea agreement hinges on him passing this poly. It makes me so disgusted that his life hinges on this stupid polygraph and they aren't even allowed in court!!! Ugh! My question is, has anyone's hubs ever had this happen and if so, any tips to prepare better for next time. The attorney suggested we come down the night before, so we don't have the long ride the same day of, that way hubs can get plenty of sleep, make sure he eats, and hopefully be more relaxed. I also plan to have hubs call his psychologist tomorrow and ask if he can help my husband work through his emotions, not sure if he'll be able to make progress by the time we have to have another poly done or not. I also can't help but wonder if my husband's meds had something to do with things today as well, he's on effexor, welbutrin, and propranolol. The poly guy new about the meds and even commented that most people with mental problems aren't usually given the poly. My husband has severe depression/anxiety, as well as PTSD. So, I don't know if that had something to do with it or not also. Anyone know anything about this?

My husband is in the same boat with depression and PTSD. He is also taking serious drugs for his condition. I asked him for help to advise you. He has taken at least one or more polygraphs a year for the last nine years with some good results and some inconclusive. He said to take the lawyers advice and get there the night before driving is always stressful. Have a good breakfast with no coffee and no stimulants. When it comes to questions try to make your mind go blank and just answer yes or no - don't try to think about the question and tell the truth. I hope this helps a little - good luck. The hardest time is waiting for the uncoming polygraph so I know how you both feel.

my bf had to take a ply to start the process of termination from parole. The first one was inconclusive, what had happened was he answered the question and ended up reviewing the question again in his mind and wile doing that held his breathe causing for a faulty read on the poly. If he just answers them honestly without hesitating and thinking about his answers, he should do fine.

also, the interview is the most important part of the poly. everything has to come out in the interview. there's no reason to lie in the polygraph.

There is no reason to lie,but the polygraph is b.s.Look all over the internet and you will see.The polygraph is about you telling on yourself in the interview. Its all a scare tatic...........They hook you up to all them gagets and its all to scare you.Just tell your husband to be calm and it will work out. They should ban them.I dont understand how they can still be used.

Thank you sad, I read your reply to my husband. We appreciate your husband's advice, it also gives us some hope knowing that even though he's had some inconclusives as well, yet he's also had good results also. Hopefully next time will go much smoother. I will let you know how it goes in a couple weeks when he goes again for it.

fish - thanks for the info. There was no lying, my husband has no reason to lie. That's why he was all stunned, he figured if he just went in and told the truth, it would all be fine. It threw us for a loop when it came back as inconclusive. However, I think his mind was in emotional overload from everything leading up the poly. The more I hear and have read today, I'm hopeful that if he can just go in with a clear mind, that things will hopefully go much smoother the next time.

lilly- I agree, it's bs how they can use these things. I mean how can something that is not 100% reliable be used when someone's life depends on those results. Just doesn't seem right.

it's not even 50% accurate. they can only claim it's more accurate because people disclose.
