on probation monthly report

I remember the probation officer telling my son he had to bring in a monthly report . But he didnt give him a form for it. Does it come in the mail? We havent gotten it yet. Does he have to physically bring it in or can we mail or fax it. If i have to take a morning off work to drive my son thete once a month ..how long? It'll be really inconvenient. Is this reporting every month for his full probation.

He should have to fill out and turn in a Written Monthly Report every time he sees the PO. Blank ones should be available on the counter or something near where he signs in. The first few visits will be longer and then get shorter after the PO gets to know your son and sees that he's doing what he's supposed to be doing. Mine range between 15 and 45 minutes

He didnt get a form. I ll have to call and see if they ll mail us one. We live in philly do its not convenient to just stop by and get one. I dont remember the PO saying whrn hr needed to come bavk. Is it once a month? Seems they dont tell you everything you need to know. Thanks

They only take a few minutes to fill in. Most just grab one when they check in and fill it out while they're waiting to be called back.

When my son first started his probation he had to go in to see his PO every week. Then it went down to 3 times a month, then twice a month. He's never had a monthly form to fill out(at least not that I know of. I'm not allowed to go back there with him). Now he goes once a month to use the kiosk and about once every 4-5 weeks to see the PO. Plus his PO makes a house visit once a month. The kiosk only takes a few minutes and he can go any time the office is that week (M-F). His PO has also told him that if he ever ends up being scheduled to work the day he's supposed to come in to see him to just call and let him know.

My husband had to go once a week for the first 4-6 months, then he was bumped to every other week. Now I am hoping that by June it is once a month. That may or may not include a home visit. but in WI for someone on paper for a sex offense they all get a monthly home visit or more. We live about 45 mins from the PO office as well so it is rather inconvenient.

He has to fill out a form every time he goes in and for any activity that he wants to do that is not already pre-approved. Sounds like the federal probation isn't as harsh as state.

In our case the PO office is only about a 5-10 min drive from here depending on the traffic lights.

What kinds of things do they have to report on? Also, when do you find out what the rules for probation will be?

For my partner he has to go weekly and then includes daily drug test even though he has never drank or used. He has a weekly report. isn't allowed to do things that aren't in his safety plan including friends coming to his house, usual shopping and getting gas in car. He also has a treatment group once a week were they report on dreams, sexual thoughts and work through this workbook that ask them to confess to things like peeing in public, anytime in their life they were drinking and having sex, and any how many ways they have gotten away with hurting others. And my partner is there for attempt,(he kissed her). So if you only have to go monthly just keep a journal. I am also impressed they are letting you have anything to do with his probation. for the first 3 months I couldn't even contact the PO. Good Luck sounds like you will make this!

Does my son have to call for an appointment or just show up ? His PO never mentioned a next appoint.

That's odd. The next appt should have been set while he was meeting the PO

I dealt with the Feds, as you know. He should call his PO quickly and get the date and time of his next appointment. He can not just show up. Also, the monthly report is mostly financials and changes to address. It also asks questions about restrictions and things that could be violations. It is a standard form.
Most is pure repetition from month to month. I filled out all of the name, address, workplace and other information that does not change on a form and copied it. I turned one in every month.I do remember faxing and mailing it at times. I always called to make sure the PO got it when I did this and kept copies. I still have them 11 years later. You never know.
