i have found it depends on the state. Call them and most will tell you. Texas sucks and I am not sure that would be the place for him to go. I contacted North Dakota once and they told me after probation my son would follow their rules not Florida's. i believe Massachusetts said the same thing. Florida makes one follow the rules of the state they came from and the Florida rules.

Okay, I'll see if I can find someone knowledgeable to tell me what would happen here. Texas is really the only option, since my job certification is here.

He just seems to think that once parole is over everything will go back to normal. I'm not so sure.

Unfortunately nothing will ever be normal while on the registry - many of the young men that go to prison actually try to get back in after trying to deal with the registry. so sad.

When he is off supervision , depending on what tier he will be in Texas, 1 2 3 , tier or level 1, one time a year on Bday same for level 2, level 3 is 4 times a year. There are not a lot of restrictions once he is off parole, some cities have put them in place, but as a general rule you can live where you want, go to parks, lakes etc, the schools if you have children can be a pain, not a state rule but one that most school districts enforce.


He will also have to have driver license changed every year, but not a big deal.


Also depending on the city or county you live in they might do address checks, something they have not done in years, then just started it again, which again is not bad, you do not have to allow them in , and they only stood outside for about 2 minutes. Another plus of being off paper. Since he will be off paper he will go by Texas law but will still have to register for life because his offence was in CA.

Things will be much better when he is off parole, do not let the doom and gloom about Texas get to you, most is not true, he will have his name put in the local paper, when he first arrives, photo maybe depending on the county or city, but many do not bother with a photo and it is one time deal unless you move again.

If he decides to go through school, no major hurdle here, but they will need to know .

Have him join the state group, do not allow him self pity, help him all you can but they need to help themselves also.

See, that's what I was afraid of. He'd definitely be only Tier 1, but I think I hear you saying that even though TX Tier 1 is only 10 years of registration his will be lifetime because it's CA. I know CA is in the process of changing to the tier system but I don't know if it will work retroactively?

They way I understand this you cannot move to another state and have your registration changed, it will still go by the state you were convicted in, but you will still have to go by the rules of Texas.



Most people on the registry in Texas are on for life, even level 1.
