I am posting this to warn the users of this site about the following:
This evening, we had a MediaCom service technician come to our house to fix an issue with our WiFi Internet service. At the end of the visit, the technician informed me that MediaCom no longer provides customers with parental control options. Hence, children can access pornographic photographs and online predators can communicate with children.
Thereafter, I called MediaCom because the original issue was not fixed. Go figure because this company sucks big time. Anyway, in my speaking with the representative with the Tech Support division, she informed me that the service technician was incorrect. She informed me that MediaCom only offers parental controls to customers with cable Internet and NOT customers with WiFi Internet service.
When I informed the representative that I had sent six government officials with the Federal Communications Commission and the media an email about the lack of parental control options to protect children and others, the representative quickly transferred me to a supervisor. According to the supervisor, MediaCom offers parental control options to customers with WiFi Internet service, but only through certain modem's.
Despite what the supervisor had to say, MediaCom does not inform customers who use a modem to ensure they have the correct modem that has the software programs to permit parental control options. Thus, any and all parents might think they are protecting their children using WiFi when in reality they are not because they have the incorrect modem without the required software.
It is amazing that in talking to three MediaCom employees I got three different stories all from the Tech Services division -- the people who are supposed to know what they hell they are doing.
So, it is a good idea that folks call their Internet Service Provider to ensure the modem they are using is in fact set up with the right software to allow parental controls. If folks use their own modem, it is a good idea to call the manufacture to ensure what have has the required software otherwise, folks may think parental control settings are in place, when in fact they are not.

Most internet service providers don't offer parental control. It is the parents responibility to get special software or hire a professional to set it up through other means (Routers/firewalls etc._.).
The parental control offered by any ISP is going to be minimal at best and can't really protect your children from anything. The best thing to do is educate yourself on computer use and monitoring.
