As far as treatment goes, those people have not made the effort to find practitioners. That's the only reason there is a "shortage" of people willing to be sex offender therapists. Besides, they are right. There is probably no one with appropriate training at the Master's degree level who is willing to do it for $18,000 a year (just guessing). Isn't it much more efficacious to spend $50,000 a year incarcerating someone?
I am being slightly facetious, but not much. There is no real treatment because nobody cares. The old wive's tale that sex offender treatment doesn't work lives on.
But wait, after they complete the treatment, they are supposed to be good, but oh no, they are still so dangerous that we better put them on the list, just in case, since their recidivism rate is so high ( not really!!!!!) like 5% to 10% (depends on the research). Does that make any sense?
