It's freezing winter; they def won't believe the car thing but that won't qualify to them anyway. If I can find a cheap hotel in an industrial area I could put him up there a week or so but the money will run out very fast! They say waiting for a shelter spot usually takes like 2 months! He makes less than 20K a year and I don't make terribly much money myself. :/
Every time we thought we'd found a qualifying spot with a friend, the cops say no to it. How can they give a person less than a week to move.... it's a complete trap.
I'm far more worried for him in prison than I am for myself living alone. He has PTSD and major depression. He gets panic attacks. I'm afraid he would try to kill himself, or just become completely and irrevocably insane in teh slammer. :(
I have two sons in prison with very long sentences. They are doing just fine, even though they are both SOs. They have friends and activities and interests they can pursue.
We lived in one (no kids) for a couple of years when he made parole but couldn't find an 'approved" place to live and so could not get released. (It's quite the education)
Him moving protects you because it ensures your address won't immediately be on the Registry. As a stop gap it works until you all can get your bearings. And if there is any chance he needs to move out quickly to prevent Child Protective services from taking away your children, he'll jump at the chance to move (even there).
Then he had to go to a really seedy hotel for about 8 months until we finally found an apartment that was ok with probation and the sheriffs office and the landlord was willing to rent to a sex offender. It was not easy and if not for the generosity of others I would not have been able to come up with the deposit and rent. He now is going to move into an apartment where he works and be an onsite manager. But I always live with the "what if"

(which is now free) will let you draw circles on a map. When you find an address that you'd like to check on, put it into GE and draw a 1k' circle around it and that will give you an idea of what's around it that you might need to be concerned.
You can also then work it in the opposite direction, when you have 4-5 hours to kill. I mapped out all of the locations around me, schools, day cares, etc as best as I could. Then I have a sort of quick reference to see what's up.

I don't know how P & P does this work. Do they actually go out to the property with a map and pace stuff with a 1k' string? I can't imagine they do that.
