Remember this is election year. I've tried to speak with others running for office in the past. They would agree with me but signed these bills anyway. They don't care.
I am no longer on the Registry. So, if I want to travel to, let's say, Bermuda, do I go to my state registry and volunteer the information? I don't think so. Now, when I travel out of state, I tell no one. So, why would I volunteer the information? Of course, I always stay below the AWA 7 day trigger.
There is no Federal mechanism to report. It is all done through the state's registries. That is where the Federal registry gets its information. So, this is just another "feel good", BS law!
I tell the government what I am required to, nothing!
Why do you ask?
Nak
As I have said before, no thanks needed. I remember all to well the total lack of resources when I first started my fight with the government. That was 16 years ago. I don't want anyone to go through that. I just missed the AWA by a little more than a year. If not, I would still be on the registry for another 11 years. I can't imagine what people go through now with an endless tunnel of hell before them.
I ask because I know someone who is also off the registry and not in his wildest dreams would it occur to him to even think about informing anyone of travel plans (I think).
Should he? Or did I misunderstand your original comment.
I was bringing up a gaping hole in SORNA that will also be in the International Megan's. That hole is the Feds are entirely dependent on the state's for information and the state's are entirely dependent on the registrants. If we are so horrible, why are we trusted to provide accurate information? This shows the irrationality and hypocrisy with these laws.
As for providing my information, I was honest when I was forced to register, by law. However, now that I no longer register, I give them nothing. The only awareness I have is the 7 day period in SORNA. If I cross a state line and stay for 6 days, and they somehow find out, not likely, the feds will not get involved since I fall within the Federal 7 day grace period.
Some states want you to register in 3 days or less if you have EVER been convicted of a sex sex crime. I am not about to visit those states and if I do, they will never know.
So, your friend should give them nothing. Not even a "hello". Maybe, a finger wave.
What if you got an expungement / dismissal? You would technically be not convicted of anything? And be the same as any other citizen, without any kind of requirement whatsoever?
Which states require registration if you were EVER convicted? There was another user on here talking about that and that was bewildering to me, too. What is the point of getting off if you still have to follow all the rules?
This is just bizarre...
